Pack Shoot Lights Out to Close Season Sweep Over Westminster

PUEBLO, Colo. (Feb. 11, 2022) – The Colorado State University Pueblo men's basketball team played stellar defense throughout the game and held Westminster to 34% shooting and walked out of Massari Arena with a 72-62 win.
 
The teams traded baskets to open the game before the Griffins took a six-point lead after Westminster's Yusuf Mohamed knocked down a contested mid-range jumper with 9:46 in the half.
 
The ThunderWolves chipped at the lead and out-scored the Griffins 16-10 to tie the game at 31-31 after Tristan Hurdle (Fr., Highlands Ranch, Colo.) knocked down 3-pointer with 3:14 left in the first half. The Pack closed the half on a 7-4 run to go in to halftime with a 38-35 lead.
 
A 3-point basket from Lian Ramiro (Fr., Aurora, Colo.) to start the half sparked a 9-2 run for the Pack as the team took a 47-37 lead just two and a half minutes into the second half. Ramiro later found Isaiah Thompson (Fr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) in the open court who finished with a two-handed slam that gave the Pack a 55-41 with 10:44 on the clock.
 
The ThunderWolves continued to play solid defense, holding the Griffins to three of ten shooting from the field to extend their lead to their biggest of the game at 63-48 with 3:36 left in the game. The Pack closed the game by going 7 of 9 from the charity-stripe to complete the season sweep over Westminster 72-62.
 
The Pack's solid defensive efforts held the Griffins to 34.3% shooting which included 23 of 67 from the field and 3 of 22 from deep while shooting 61% off 25 of 41 shooting from the field and knocked down nine 3-pointers. The ThunderWolves bench out-scored the Griffins bench 32-18 on the night.
 
Ramiro and Meekness Payne (Jr., Phoenix, Ariz.) led the way for the Pack on offense, scoring 15 points a piece while Ramiro added 5 rebounds and 5 assists. De'Shaun Cooper (Fr., Poway, Calif.) finished with 10 points and 3 rebounds while Hurdle went 2 from 4 from deep and added 8 points.
 
The ThunderWolves will be back in action next weekend to avenge an OT loss to Western Colorado on Friday, February 18th, at Massari Arena.
