COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (December 9, 2022) – The Colorado State University Pueblo men's and women's indoor track & field completed the first day at the UCCS Pre-Holiday Invite with one school record and many provisional marks set.
The school record broken was by
Carl Schmidt who long jumped for a distance of 7.29m for a third place finish, Schmidt has had a great start to his season. He also ran the 60m hurdles and the open 400m. Which he placed first (8.13 seconds) and second (49.93 seconds) in respectively. Also in the 400m
Tyrell Smith placed third with a time of 49.94 seconds.
Reece Sherman-Newell had his debut in the 800m, he ran a provisional time of 1:50.72, that places him second on the TFFRS list in this early season race.
Kaleb Tipton also raced the 800m and finished in second behind Sherman-Newell for collegiate athletes, he ran a time of 1:55.61.
Lucas Westbrook led the trio of CSU Pueblo men in the 3000m with a time of 8:48.87 in third place.
Joseph Harker placed fourth with a time of 8:56.48. Rounding up the trio was
Matthew Roberds with a sixth place finish of 9:18.95.
Justin Jenks finished in second place in the weight throw with a throw of 17.71m. That came on his first throw of the competition.
Terrel Johnson is competing in his first Heptathlon of the indoor season which is 8 events over the span of two days. He sits in eighth place after the first four events with 2922 total points.
On the women's side, the team was headlined by the women's 800m crew of
Helen Braybrook and
Taylor Holland finishing in first and second place. The duo was close to provisional times, with 2:16.03 and 2:17.43.
Margot Thomas-Gatel led the women's trio in the 3000m, finishing third in 10:11.21. Then in seventh and eighth place was
Halle Schmitz and
Sarah Renberg.
In the women's weight throw the Pack had a trio of athletes make the finals and attempt six throws.
Olivia Mikaelian finished in second place with a throw of 17.44m.Then in seventh place was
Katherine Higgins with a throw of 14.74m. Lastly in eighth place was
Heather Graham with a 14.68m throw.
The teams head back up to Colorado Springs for day two of the meet beginning at 11:00am for field events and with running events at 12:30pm. The meet can be watched on the RMAC network.
