ThunderWolves route No. 21 Western Colorado 37-9; fall against No. 20 University of Mary at Tracy Borah Duals

GUNNISON, Colo. (January 8, 2022) - The Colorado State University Pueblo wrestling team started its dual season by splitting the doubleheader, defeating No. 21 Western Colorado 37-9 and fell 41-6 against No. 20 University of Mary, Saturday at the 31st Annual Tracy Borah Duals at Western Colorado University-Mountaineer Fieldhouse.

RECAP (CSUP-WCU)
Facing against RMAC foe WCU to start the day, the Pack registered three pins and posted a pair of tech fall victories en route to the victory. CSU Pueblo wasted no time in getting on the board and at 125, Parker McBride (Sr., Duvall, Wash.) earned a 16-0 tech fall against WCU's Binyam Barila.

At 133, the Pack's Devin Lueck (R-So., Fountain, Colo.) battled throughout his match up against the Mountaineer's Zack Flowers before eventually falling by a 9-7 decision.

In the 141-pound match, Cyruss Meeks (Fr., Casper, Wyo.) earned an 8-3 decision versus Alex Alvarez to give the ThunderWolves three team points.

Gavin Melendez (R-Sr., Los Banos, Calif.) wrestled against Jacob McCarley and won by a 19-4 tech fall.

Registering the Pack's first pin of the day, Ruben Garcia (Sr., Selma, Calif.) earned his first round pin at 1:19 against Walker Heckendorf.

Earning back-to-back pins, Justin Davis (R-Jr., Pueblo, Colo.) bested Kevin Meyer at 4:48 to earn six team points.

In the 174-pound matchup, WCU's Cole Hernandez defeated Remington Winmill (Fr., Wendell, Idaho) by fall (5:00).

The ThunderWolves' Dominic Robles (So., Pueblo, Colo.) notched a 14-9 decision against Espen Weber at 184 pounds and in the 197-pound match, Ben Gould (So., Canyon Country, Calif.) defeated Ruger Wyneken by an 11-4 mark.

At 285 pounds, Gavin Nye (R-Jr., Gerber, Calif.) won by fall (1:34) in the first period against Zach Schraeder to give the Pack its final six points of the dual.

RECAP (CSUP-MARY)
Battling against No. 20 University of Mary, the Pack hit a virtual brick wall and recorded two decision wins by Meeks and Melendez, dropping the dual by a score of 41-6.

Meeks registered a hard-fought 3-2 decision against Mary's Laken Boese and Melendez shutout his opponent in Trevor Fauver by a 4-0 decision.

CSU Pueblo will continue its season on the road next week in another doubleheader dual session. The Pack will face off against San Francisco State and Simon Fraser hosted by SFUS.
