Pack Claim Second at Colorado College Classic

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Jan. 23, 2022) – The Colorado State University Pueblo women's swimming and diving team took second place after the conclusion of the Colorado College Classic Sunday evening. The ThunderWolves (779 points) claimed second behind Colorado College (1111 points) after logging 10 first-place finishes at the three-day weekend meet.
 
The final day of competition at the Colorado College Classic kicked off with the 200-yard medley relay. Katy Zimmerman, Kate Miller, Alyssa Grunloh and Julia Whitfield raced their way to a first-place finish off a 1:57.60 combined finish. The team of McKenna Hauber, Annabelle Zanotti, Bristyn Croswhite and Makayla Seal combined for a third-place finish off a time of 2:04.35.
 
The final race of the morning session was the 800-freestyle relay. Zimmerman and Hauber raced the first two legs followed by Gia Genova and Grunloh in the final two. The relay team won their heat with a time of 8:23.91.
 
Genova then opened up the evening session with a third-place finish in the 500-yard free 5:35.68 final time. Melissa Braddock raced her way to a seventh-place finish off an effort of 5:49.41.
 
Kristina Copeland and Markina Evdokimoff placed 10th and 11th, respectively in the 500 free.
 
In the 200-yard individual medley and 27th event of the weekend, Kristen Wolf swam her way to a 2:20.40 final wall touch to claim her second individual gold of the Classic. Miller placed fifth in the event off a 2:29.48 effort while Shion Ienaga followed in seventh-place off a 2:44.30 final time.
 
Seal claimed a bronze in the fast 50-yard freestyle sprint after touching the wall in 26.23 seconds. Whitfield claimed sixth in 26.71 seconds. 
 
Zimmerman racked up her fourth first-place finish on the weekend after she claimed the 200-yard backstroke in 2:17.44. Hauber and Croswhite followed in fourth and fifth off final times of 2:22.32 and 2:25.66.
 
The following race, Grunloh swam to an impressive second-place in the 100-yard butterfly off a 1:02.81 touch of the wall.
 
Ienaga took her first, first-place finish of the weekend in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:54.57 and was followed by her teammate Zanotti in second-place who finished the distance race in 2:58.02.
 
The Pack closed out the Colorado College Classic with the 200-yard freestyle relay. Seal led off the relay and handed it to Miller next. After the 50 yard burst, Evdokimoff took over the race and turned the final sprint to Whitfield who clinched the victory for the ThunderWolves off a 1:46.20 combined time. In fifth, Wolf, Zanotti, Ienaga and Hauber compiled a final time of 1:51.17. 
 
Off 10 first-place finishes CSU Pueblo claimed second-place overall as a team with 779 points without fielding a diver. Colorado College took first with 1111 points.
 
CSU Pueblo looks ahead to the RMAC Championships on Feb. 9 in Grand Junction, Colo. hosted by Colorado Mesa University where the Pack will compete for four days in. Ticket and visitor information can be found here.
