DURANGO, Colo. (Jan. 21) – The Colorado State University Pueblo men's basketball team scored 46 points in the second half but couldn't hold Fort Lewis as the Skyhawks hold on to an 85-76 win on Friday evening.
The Skyhawks scored the first 5 points of the game before three straight field goals from the ThunderWolves cut the lead down to 7-6 early in the first half.
A hot streak for FLC saw the Skyhawks take a 19-10 lead over the Pack before
Isaiah Thompson (Fr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) grabbed an offensive rebound and finished strong at the rim to cut the lead down to seven points.
Back-to-back threes from the Skyhawks gave FLC their biggest lead of the night at 27-15 with 7:24 in the first half but the ThunderWolves answered with 15-6 run to end the half as the Skyhawks went into the locker room with a 33-30 advantage at the break.
The ThunderWolves and the Skyhawks started the half trading baskets before a three-pointer, a free-throw, and a layup gave the home team a 46-37 lead.
The teams went back-and-forth throughout the remainder of the second half with the ThunderWolves never able to bring the game within striking distance.
The Pack came within 3 points of the Skyhawks as
Elijah Moleon (Jr., Killeen, Texas) came up with a big bock on the defensive end before
Micah Lamberth (Fr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) finished the fast-break layup to cut the lead down to 64-61 with 6:30 left on the clock.
The one-possession lead didn't last long as the Skyhawks answered with a 3 ball on the next possession before finishing out the game with an 85-76 win over the ThunderWolves.
Two ThunderWolves finished with 20 plus points as
Lian Ramiro (Fr., Aurora, Colo.) scored 25 points while adding 4 rebounds and 3 assists and Moleon added 23 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, and a block. Thompson received his second start of the season and finished with 17 points and 5 rebounds in 32 minutes.
As a team, the ThunderWolves shot 26 of 59 from the field and 5 of 19 from three while the Skyhawks finished the night going 32 of 57 from the field and 6 of 18 from deep with FLC maintaining a slight 32-31 edge on the boards and 31 points off the bench.
The ThunderWolves will be back in action tomorrow night against Western Colorado with tip-off slated for 7 p.m.
