PUEBLO, Colo. (January 19, 2022) - Colorado State University Pueblo wrestling hosted the No. 7 ranked Adams State University Grizzlies Wednesday, falling 26-13 in the Pack's home opener.
CSU Pueblo notched three individual wins by
Parker McBride (Sr., Duvall, Wash.),
Cyruss Meeks (Fr., Casper, Wyo.) and
Gavin Nye (R-Jr., Gerber, Calif.).
Adams State won the first bout of the match that started at 197-pounds as Adams State's Hunter Tobiasson defeated
Ben Gould (So., Canyon Country, Calif.) 6-1.
In the next matchup at 285 lbs., Nye executed a win by fall at 4:05 over the Grizzlies Aiden Butler.
The third match saw McBride up against No 5 ranked Isaiah De La Cerda and McBride left it all on the mat in a 5-3 win. McBride was able to hold strong over the final thirty seconds to maintain the lead and earn three team points for the Pack.
CSU Pueblo's
Gavin Melendez (R-Sr., Los Banos, Calif.) dropped a 3-2 decision at 149 lbs.
In another close match, at 184 pounds,
Dominic Robles (So., Pueblo, Colo.) and
Benjamin Tonnessen both earned one point escapes in the first two periods and ended in overtime sudden victory when Tonnessen earned a takedown, ending the match.
CSU Pueblo will hit the road next week for a pair of duals. Thursday, January 27 the ThunderWolves will take on Colorado Mesa and Saturday the ThunderWolves wrestle at Chadron State. Both duals are scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.
