COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (May 2, 2021) - With four games left in the regular season, the Colorado State University Pueblo softball team split its final two games at University of Colorado Colorado Springs, dropping game one 8-4 before responding with an 8-3 win in the series finale at Mountain Lion Field.
On the day, CSU Pueblo was led by
Isabel Griego (Jr., Loveland, Colo.) who finished with four hits and three runs in the two games and
Marissa Piatt (Sr., San Luis Obispo, Calif.) who recorded four hits at the plate.
In game one, the ThunderWolves scored their runs in the third and fourth innings including an RBI single by
Sabrina Felix (Sr., Corona, Calif.) and a sac flyout from
Alyssa Caulford (Fr., Fullerton, Calif.) in the next at bat.
Jessica Teller (Jr., Firestone, Colo.) earned an RBI after she reached base safely on a defensive error.
In the fifth, CSU Pueblo added another run on a Piatt RBI-double down the right field line.
Starting pitcher
Jacelynn Trujillo (Fr., Pueblo, Colo.) lasted 1.2 innings and allowed four runs on six hits including giving up two homeruns.
Katelynn Ralston (Fr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) came on in relief and pitched 4.1 innings and surrendered four runs on five hits.
In the series finale, a five-run fifth inning for CSU Pueblo, highlighted by RBI singles from Piatt and Caulford, coupled with hit by pitches taken with the bases loaded from Ralston and Felix propelled the offense.
Trailing 2-0 going to the third, the Pack got on the board when Griego hit a sac flyout to left field.
UCCS matched the run in their half inning before the ThunderWolves big scoring fifth inning.
Carrying a 6-3 lead going to the seventh, the Pack added two more runs in the last at bat thanks to a two-RBI double hit by
Karlee Salas (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) with the bases loaded to put the game out of reach, 8-3.
Pack starting pitcher
Oakleigh Kearby (Fr., Meridian, Idaho) went the distance in the circle and improves to 9-4 on the year. Kearby finished with three runs allowed against eight hits to go with eight strikeouts in the game.
CSU Pueblo (21-17, 18-16 RMAC) concludes the RMAC regular season this week with two games scheduled for Wednesday against Regis University starting at 4 p.m. at Rawlings Sports Complex.
