Fairchild, Streff and Women’s 4x400m relay crowned Champions

PUEBLO, Colo. (May 2, 2021) – The No. 7 Colorado State University Pueblo women's track and field team totaled three event titles Sunday on the final day of the 2021 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships, hosted by the ThunderWolves at the Neta and Eddie DeRose ThunderBowl. The women finished fourth, while the No. 21 men had a pair of runner-up finishes and placed ninth. 
 
The women totaled 85 points at the Championships to place fourth. The men had 29 points for ninth. 
 
Senior Lauren Fairchild (McKinney, Texas) continued her outstanding weekend by winning the 200m dash and anchoring the 4x400m relay team to a victory. She also placed third in the 100m dash to help the Pack collect 26 points. She raced to a personal best time of 24.40 in the 200m dash. In the 100m race she hit an NCAA provisional time and another personal best, as she crossed the finish line in 11.80. 
 
In the 4x400m relay, the wind picked up right before the race and challenged all the athletes. Erin Case (Fr., Parker, Colo.) got things started and the Pack were third after the first leg, then Yasmine Hernandez (Jr., Johnstown, Colo.)and Hailey Streff (Jr., Madison, S.D.) worked the ThunderWolves up to second before Fairchild got the baton and closed the deal. CSU Pueblo posted a time of 3:58.55.  
 
Streff claimed the RMAC Championship in the 800m race with an NCAA provisional time of 2:09.67. She helped the ThunderWolves to 20 team points.
 
Jenna McKinley (Jr., Mosca, Colo.) was runner-up in the shot put to score eight team points. She hit an NCAA Division II provisional mark when her fourth throw reached 14.78m (48' 6"). Freshman Katherine Higgins(Castle Rock, Colo.) also scored in the event, as she posted a top toss of 12.26m to place sixth for three points. 
 
Freshman Mikayla Jones (Aurora, Colo.) recorded a personal best in the high jump and reached her first podium at a conference meet. She placed third with a leap of 1.62m (5' 3 ¾"). Jones totaled six points for the Pack. 
 
Hernandez was fourth in the 400m dash, as she raced to a time of 57.37. She missed the podium by .003 seconds, as there was a photo finish for third. She totaled five team points. 
 
Freshman Carl Schmidt (Wiesbaden, Germany) recorded two top three finishes Sunday in the hurdle events, as he collected 14 team points. Schmidt placed second in the 100m hurdles with a provisional time of 14.17, which matched his career best. He was third in the 400m hurdles, despite getting tripped up on one of the hurdles, with a time of 53.40. 
 
Senior Ethan Van Setten (Riverside, Calif.) posted a runner-up finish in the 800m run with a season best and NCAA Division II provisional time of 1:51.89.
 
Senior Marcelo Laguera (Chihuahua, Mexico) raced to fourth in the 1500m race to collect five points. He recorded a time of 3:58.06. Senior Alec Choury (Westminster, Colo.) also raced in the final and placed ninth with a time of 4:00.82. 
 
Finally, senior RJ Ramirez (Henderson, Colo.) raced to seventh in the 100m dash, as he clocked a time of 10.78.
