Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

ThunderWolves shutout Regis 2-0 on the road in RMAC Quarterfinal matchup

DENVER, Colo. (April 20, 2021) - The No. 3 seeded Colorado State University Pueblo women's soccer team went on the road and beat two-seeded Regis University 2-0 Tuesday, in the first round of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament.

CSU Pueblo received two first half goals by Taylor Potter (So., Thornton, Colo.) and Cara Siegel (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.). Porsche Nieto (Jr., Thornton, Colo.) earned an assist in the game.

The Pack opened the match with three shots in the first ten minutes of action and they recorded two corners. The pressure in front of the net by the Pack resulted in a goal in the 14th minute from Potter.

CSU Pueblo totaled eleven shots in the first half and posted three corner kicks to the stat sheet through the first period.

Entering the game in the 20th minute, Siegel made her presence felt immediately, creating a scoring chance within eight minutes of play time. Her efforts were rewarded when she connected a shot into the back of the net in the 34'. Nieto was credited with the assist on the play.

At the break, CSU Pueblo was the more active shooting team finishing the half with 11 shots against two for Regis.

In the second period, the ThunderWolves defense played strong against a Rangers team who had turned up the heat and played like a team down on the scoreboard. The defense and play at midfield held their own and withstood several scoring chances from the home team.

Siegel and Nieto both finished with a game-high four shots.

Pack goalkeeper Nicole Genis (So., San Jose, Costa Rica) made six saves in the second half and seven in the game to preserve the shutout.

Coach Comments
"I couldn't be more proud of the team performance today. The team worked together and took everything we've been working on in training this past week and applied it during the match today," said Pack Head Coach Sierra Cardenas. "They played their hearts out on defense to earn another clean sheet and took advantage of chances in front of goal."

"We are excited for a chance to take the field again on Friday for the semifinal match."

CSU Pueblo (6-2-1) continues its run in RMAC Tournament on Friday against No. 25 Colorado School of Mines in a semifinal match at 7:30 p.m. at UCCS' Mountain Lion Stadium in Colorado Springs.

In the other semifinal game, top seed and No. 8 UCCS will battle third seed out of the Rocky Division Westminster College at 4:30 p.m.
