PUEBLO, Colo. (April 15, 2021) - The Colorado State University Pueblo softball team split a pair of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference games against Regis University falling 7-1 in game one and rebounding for a 12-7 win in the nightcap.
On the day, freshman
Alyssa Caulford (Fullerton, Calif.) hit her first career homerun in the third inning of game two, a grand slam that cleared the right field wall.
Marissa Piatt (Sr., San Luis Obispo, Calif.) collected four hits on the day including two doubles in game two.
Katelynn Ralston (Fr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) hit her fourth homerun of the year in the twin bill.
In game one, the ThunderWolves scored one run in the fifth inning on RBI triple hit by
Gabby Moreno (Sr., Scottsdale, Ariz.).
Regis pitcher Taylor Armitage limited the Pack to four hits and ended with three strikeouts.
Pack starting pitcher
Oakleigh Kearby (Fr., Meridian, Idaho) lasted 3.2 innings and allowed six runs five hits and had two strikeouts.
Taylor Strupp (Jr., San Tan Valley, Ariz.) came on in relief and tossed 3.1 innings and allowed two runs including one earned run and struck out two.
In the second game, Regis jumped to a quick 4-0 lead in the first inning and chased Pack starting pitcher
Sophia Lishner (Fr., Gilbert, Ariz.) who lasted 0.2 innings and allowed four runs on five hits.
Samantha Riesen (Sr., Independence, Calif.) was given the ball with two outs in the first and would allow three runs and scattered eleven hits. She ended with two strikeouts.
The Pack quickly responded with two runs in their half, taking advantage of a defensive error and scoring the second run on a sac fly out.
Trailing 4-2 going to the home half of the third, CSU Pueblo scored six runs on four hits including the big grand slam by Caulford.
Sabrina Felix (Sr., Corona, Calif.) and
Hannah Hackney (Jr., Erie, Colo.) each earned an RBI in the inning.
The Rangers scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings, to bring the score to 8-6 heading to the bottom of the fifth.
In their at bat, CSU Pueblo added four more runs on a two-run double by Piatt and Ralston finished the scoring with her two-run blast.
RU scored another run in the sixth and was held scoreless in the seventh.
Riesen earned the win and improved to 2-4 on the year.
CSU Pueblo (13-13, 10-12 RMAC) will travel and immediately return to the diamond Saturday at New Mexico Highlands. The four game series will begin Saturday at 12 p.m. in Las Vegas, N.M.
