PUEBLO, Colo. (March 28, 2021) - The Colorado State University Pueblo softball team lost the final two games of a four-game set against Colorado Christian Sunday, losing game one, 4-1 and dropping the series finale, 6-4 at Rawlings Sports Complex.
Isabel Griego (Jr., Loveland, Colo.) led the ThunderWolves at the plate with three hits, while
Gabby Moreno (Sr., Scottsdale, Ariz.) and
Sabrina Felix (Sr., Corona, Calif.) each recorded multiple hits in the doubleheader.
In the first game, freshman hurler
Oakleigh Kearby (Meridian, Idaho) was solid in the circle as she went the distance and allowed four runs and three earned and scattered four hits. Kearby was perfect through 3.2 innings before a two-out walk in the fourth set up an RBI-double and a defensive error, allowing CCU to take a 2-0 lead.
The ThunderWolves answered in their half of the fourth and manufactured one run on a groundout.
Kearby retired the Cougars and allowed one hit over the next two innings, to keep the ThunderWolves in striking distance.
In the top of the seventh, three singles hit by the Cougars plated a pair of runs and a 4-2 lead.
The ThunderWolves were retired in order to end the game.
In the series finale, the Pack struck first with two runs crossing the plate. The first three batters reached safely and a hit by pitch thrown at Pack designated player
Hannah Hackney (Jr., Erie, Colo.) score the first run and a sac flyout from
Felix scored the second run of the inning.
CSU Pueblo was held scoreless through the middle innings and CCU would have all of their runs cross in the fourth and fifth innings.
The ThunderWolves scored a single run in the fifth on a RBI-double by Felix.
In the seventh, Felix grounded out and the runner at third base scored.
With the winning run at the plate, the ThunderWolves were retired on a groundout on the infield, ending the game at 4-2.
CSU Pueblo (7-9, 4-8 RMAC) will go on the road next week and face off against Black Hills State on Friday and Saturday. The four-game series is scheduled for a noon start time on Saturday in Spearfish, S.D.
