Pack women's soccer muscle past MSU Denver

Box Score PUEBLO, Colo. (March 17, 2021) - Colorado State University Pueblo women's soccer got back in the win column on Wednesday, defeating MSU Denver 2-1 in a nonconference match at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.

The Pack received scores from Litzy Serna (Sr., West Jordan, Utah) and Taylor Potter (So., Thornton, Colo.).

Senior Cara Siegel (Pueblo, Colo.) earned two assists in the match.

Despite MSU Denver ending the match with a 21-12 shots lead, the ThunderWolves held strong throughout the physical play.

In the first half, CSU Pueblo broke the scoreless affair in the 9th minute after taking a corner kick and the ball was deflected and landed right in front of Serna who nudged in a dribbler low and away from the Roadrunners goalkeeper.

With less than ten seconds to go in the first half, the Pack defense maintained the shutout when the goalkeeper was caught away from the net and the heads up play from Jordin Schaller (Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) who stepped in front of the net and fended off a last second shot by the Roadrunners.

At halftime, both teams earned one corner kick each and MSUD led 10-6 in shots.

In the second period, Potter scored her first career goal in the 64th minute, shooting from the top of the box to the upper right corner of the net for the two goal lead.

The Roadrunners cut the lead in half in the 84', after taking a corner kick and the ball landing beyond the defense.

Siegel finished the match with a team-high four shots and three landing on goal.

Pack goalkeeper Nicole Genis (So., San Jose, Costa Rica) made a career-high ten saves and faced 21 shots by MSU Denver.

CSU Pueblo (2-1-0) will stay home and begin RMAC play when they host Adams State Sunday at 2 p.m. at Gonzales Stadium.
