Balanced attack leads men's soccer in home shutout win

Box Score PUEBLO, Colo. (March 12, 2021) - Colorado State University Pueblo men's soccer improved their record to 2-0 in as many games after beating MSU Denver 3-0, Friday at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.

The Pack was led by sophomore Vinzent Zingel (Aachen, Germany) who totaled four points, scoring a goal and adding two assists in the match.

Louis Kearns (So., Liverpool, England) scored his first career goal, after he took a pass from Zingel and fired a shot past the diving goalkeeper just four minutes into play.

Pack newcomer Miguel De Leon Jr. (Jr., Deltona, Fla.) netted his first goal with the team in the 34th minute, hitting a one-timer shot off a rebound, hitting inside the post for a 2-nil lead. Zingel was credited with the assist on the play.

For the match, CSU Pueblo out shot the Roadrunners by a 15-7 clip and the offense was active in creating ten corner kicks in the match.

At intermission, the Pack held a 8-3 shots lead and had recorded six corners.

The second half intensity levels remained elevated as the ThunderWolves offense continued the attack on the MSU Denver defense.

In the 56', Zingel earned himself a goal, taking a pass from Josua Hall (So., Baiersbronn, Germany) and finishing for the score and three goal lead.

At goalkeeper, the Pack's Joseph Banul (Jr., Richardson, Tex.) started the match between the posts and made one save. Garret Wild (Jr., Brownsville, Tex.) made his appearance to begin the second half and finished with one save.

"It was great to get our first home win. We created a lot of chances today and showed our attacking threat," said Pack Head Coach Oliver Twelvetrees. "Vinzent and Miguel caused them a lot of problems and scored quality goals. It was fantastic to also see Louis score his first goal for us in his career."

"Defensively, we worked hard and kept a good shape. Dominik, Nick, Emil and Mahir worked well together plus the GK's Joe and Garret to earn another clean sheet."

CSU Pueblo (2-0-0) returns to the pitch on Mar. 21 when Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play begins. The Pack will host Adams State at 4 p.m. at Gonzales Stadium.
