PUEBLO, Colo. (Feb. 7, 2021) – The Colorado State University Pueblo men's basketball team has rescheduled their Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference home game against Fort Lewis College for Monday, Feb. 8 at 1 p.m.
No fans will be allowed in Massari Arena. A free video stream and live stats will be available. Audio will be available on AM1350 Fox Sports Pueblo, online or on the iHeart app. Play-by-play will come from Jim Brooks, the Voice of the ThunderWolves.
VERSUS THE OPPONENT
• The ThunderWolves (2-6, 2-6 RMAC) and Skyhawks (5-4, 4-4 RMAC) had an overtime battle in their meeting last year with Fort Lewis coming out on top, 98-95. In that contest in Durango,
David Simental scored 42 points and hit six 3-pointers. Following that performance, he earned RMAC Offensive Player of the Week.
LAST TIME OUT
After two weeks without any games, the Pack returned to action Feb. 2 at South Dakota School of Mines. In a game that saw 21 lead changes, the Hardrockers would hold the final advantage and post an 80-74 victory against the ThunderWolves.
The Pack shot 45.3 percent from the field. South Dakota Mines (7-5, 7-5 RMAC) hit on 49.2 percent from the field, while knocking down a season-high 11 3-pointers (11-for-22, 50%). The rebounding margin went to the ThunderWolves 37-36, despite SD Mines entering the game with a +5 rebounding margin. The home team had 17 assists to CSU Pueblo's 11.
Tre Brown led the team with 19 points, which included three from long range. He added five assists and four rebounds.
With 10:35 to go the ThunderWolves led 57-54 off a jumper from
Eric Williams, but an 8-2 run by the home team gave the Hardrockers a 62-59 lead with 8:22 showing on the game clock.
A pair of Simental three throws got the Pack within two at 66-64 with 5:51 remaining in regulation.
Unfortunately, the ThunderWolves failed to score for five minutes of game time until a Simental layup with 40 seconds left. At that point the damage was done and South Dakota Mines led, 75-66.
CSU Pueblo made a flurry of baskets in those final seconds, but the Hardrockers would win by six, 80-74.
THE PACK
• Junior
Tre Brown leads the team with 14.6 points per game. He has five games with 19 or more points. Brown is shooting 83.9 percent from the free throw line to sit eighth in the league.
• Junior
David Simental is averaging 14.5 points per game and shooting 61.2 percent from the field to rank fourth in the league. His 87.5 percent effort from the free throw line is fourth in the conference.
• Freshman
Lian Ramiro is tied for the lead in the RMAC with a 2.2 assist/turnover ratio. He guides the team with 24 assists, a 3.4 assists per game average that ranks sixth in the league. Ramiro adds 11.0 points and 3.7 rebounds per game.
• Freshman
Tristan Hurdle has a team-best 18 3-pointers, which are 2.3 3-pointers per game that ranks tied for fourth in the RMAC. His 40.0 percent effort from long range is good for eighth in the league. He has 10.0 points per game, while he is second on the team with 4.5 rebounds per game.
• Freshman
De'Shaun Cooper adds 9.4 points per game and is shooting 66.7 percent from the field. His 0.9 blocks per game (7 total) is tied for ninth in the conference. He leads the team with 4.9 rebounds per game.
• In the RMAC, the team is sixth in field goal percentage (47.2%).
• Head Coach
Matt Hammer is in his second season as head coach.
• CSU Pueblo returned four players from last year's roster, while only three saw the floor. The rest of the 14-player roster is made up of four transfers and seven freshmen.
THE SKYHAWKS
• The Skyhawks are 5-4 overall and 4-4 in league play. Fort Lewis has won three straight with two of those coming on the road. Saturday, FLC traveled to UCCS and won 83-64 behind 25 points and nine rebounds by Riley Farris. The team shot 58.2 percent from the field and held the Mountain Lions to 36.2 percent.
• In seven games, Farris owns 23 points per game to sit second in the RMAC. He adds 8.0 rebounds per game (T-3rd in the RMAC) and is shooting 52 percent from the field (10th in the league). He also leads the team with 27 assists (3.9 apg is 4th in the conference) and his 1.7 blocked shots per game is a league-best.
• Will Wittman adds 10.4 points per game and hits on 58.3 percent of his shots. Three more players add 8.2 or more points per game.
• The Skyhawks average 79.9 points per game to rank second in the league. They allow 74.7 points per game, a +5.2 scoring margin that ranks third in the conference. FLC is fourth in the RMAC in field goal percentage (48.7%), fifth in 3-point percentage (37.2%) and own a league-best assist/turnover ratio (1.19).
