PUEBLO, Colo. (February 5, 2020) – Colorado State University Pueblo Swimming & Diving returns to competition Saturday Feb. 6 when they travel to Western Colorado University for a 12 p.m. dual against the Mountaineers.
This dual will serve as just the ThunderWolves third dual of the season. It will be their second time competing against the Mountaineers this season. CSU Pueblo has not competed in a dual since Oct. 10.
The Pack enters this dual 1-1 on the season. They defeated Adams State University 167-97. The Pack lost to the Mountaineers 153-117.
Katy Zimmerman (Fr., Cypress, Texas) impressed in her debut for the Pack. Zimmerman broke the Sam Jones Aquatic Center record in the 500 Free with a time of 5:18.49 in the Pack's home meet in October. She also won the 200 Free (1:59.05) and the 1000 Free (10:59.09).
This effort earned Zimmerman Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Week honors. She became the fifth Pack swimmer to earn this honor.
The Pack dominated the distance events in their earlier meeting with the Mountaineers.
Melissa Braddock (So., Wigan, Manchester, England, UK) and
Mckenna Hauber (So., Gillette, Wyo.) helped the Pack to a strong showing in the distance events against the Mountaineers earlier this season.
Braddock took second in the 200 Free (2:04.82) and 1000 Free (11:34.30). Hauber placed third in the 1000 Free (11:43.88) and 100 Free (57.32) and took second in the 200 IM (2:19.87) .
Kate Miller (Sr., Draper, Utah) won the 50 breast against the Mountaineers with a time of 33.31, the fifth-fastest time in program history.
Kristen Wolf (So., Topeka, Kan.) posted the Pack's best showing in the 100 Breast (1:15.11)
Jillian Abrian (So., Ladera Ranch, Colo.) took first the 50 Fly in the Pack's dual with the Mountaineers in a time of 28.91. Abrian will also look to make an impact in diving for the Pack.
Julia Whitfield (Jr., Topeka, Kan.) will look to anchor the Pack's sprints and relay teams. She owns the school's fourth and fifth-fastest times in the 100 Free.
Alyssa Basaldua (Fr., Katy, Texas) looks to follow up on a strong showing in her debut. Basaldua took second in the 100 fly against the Mountaineers and Grizzlies earlier this season with a mark of 1:04.93.
Saturday's meet will serve as the Pack's final tune up before the RMAC Championships which will be held Feb. 17- 20.
