PUEBLO, Colo. (February 20, 2021) - Colorado State University Pueblo Men's Lacrosse starts its 2021 season Sunday when the Pack plays Colorado College at 1 p.m. in a road game at Washburn Field.
The ThunderWolves finished the 2020 season 1-3 before it was shut down due to COVID-19. The Pack earned their first win of the season against Davenport University 17-16.
Garrett Breeling (So., Highlands Ranch, Colo.) earned Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Defensive Player of The Week honors in his last week of competition. Breeling made 22 saves on 42 shots against Rockhurst University in the Pack's last game. He also stopped 16 of the 32 shots he faced against the Panthers to earn the win. Breeling ranked 11th in D-II with 14.0 saves per game in 2020.
Defensemen
Michael DeMaio (Gambrills, Md.) and
Tavian Watson (Aurora, Colo.) are the Pack's lone seniors. DeMaio (77) and Watson (76) rank seventh and eighth respectively in program history in grounds balls.
Watson ranks fourth in program history with 34 caused turnovers. DeMaio 's 24 career caused turnovers rank sixth in program history.
The Pack will field a young roster in 2021. In total, the Pack will have 24 freshmen on the roster, including 14 student-athletes who got their freshman season back due to COVID-19.
Among these freshman are
Connor Owen (Keller, Texas) who led the Pack with 19 points including nine goals and 10 assists. Owen earned RMAC Offensive Player of the Week honors March 9. He ranked second in the RMAC and 12th in D-II with 2.50 assists per game.
Cornelius Healy (Fr., Keller, Texas) ranked eighth in the RMAC last season with 1.0 caused turnovers per game. Watson led the Pack and ranked third in the RMAC with 1.25 caused turnovers per game.
Offensively, the Pack returns
Skylar Weathers (So., Ogden, Utah). Weathers ranked third on the Pack with seven goals in 2020. Attackmen
Logan Naves (Fr., Highlands Ranch, Colo.)
Trenton Steele (Fr., Littleton, Colo.) and
Logan Wells (Fr. Centennial, Colo.). This trio tallied 10 goals in 2020.
The ThunderWolves also return
Brance Anderson (So., Bulverde, Texas)
Matt Lutz (So., Austin, Texas). Anderson and Lutz, along with Watson were named First Team Academic All-RMAC last season.
The Pack ranked ninth in D-II with 15,75 saves per game. In addition to Breeling, the Pack returns
Ethan Ferrie (So., Littleton, Colo.) and
Darius Miller (Fr., Aurora, Colo.) between the pipes.
Colorado College leads the all-time series against the Pack 2-0. The Tigers and Pack last met in 2018 with the Tigers claiming a 16-11 win at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.
