ThunderWolves Drop Dual Meet with Colorado College 188-106

PUEBLO, Colo. (Dec. 4, 2021) – The Colorado State University Pueblo women's swim team took to the lanes against Colorado College in a dual meet Saturday afternoon and fell 188-106 to the Tigers in the Sam Jones Natatorium on Senior Day.
 
The day started with a tight race in the 200-yard medley. The Pack's Bristyn Croswhite, Kate Miller, Alyssa Grunloh, and Julia Whitfield fell by .06 seconds to the Colorado College relay team and took second off a 1:56.70 combined effort. Gia Genova, Kristen Wolf, Nalani Wess, and McKenna Hauber took third in the event in 2:01.40 while Melissa Braddock, Shion Ienaga, Markina Evdokimoff, and Kristina Copeland rounded things out in 2:10.51.
 
Grunloh bounced back in the second event and clinched the gold in the 1000 yard freestyle off an 11:43.03 race while Braddock helped sweep one and two with an 11:49.60 effort to claim second. Copeland rounded out the grueling race with a fourth-place, 12:11.91 finish to help the ThunderWolves' efforts.
 
Katy Zimmerman highlighted the 200 free efforts for the ThunderWolves with a 1:59.80 final time. Hauber followed up her teammate in third in 2:05.11 and Genova rounded out the race for the Pack in fifth with a 2:07.72 effort.
 
Colorado College swept the podium 100 backstroke. Kate Miller placed fourth in 1:07.91 while Braddock finished fifth off a 1:13.47 wall-touch and Vivica Craig clinched sixth in 1:15.92.
 
Wolf was able to grab an individual win in the 100 breaststroke off a dominant 1:11.09 race. Annabelle Zanotti notched third in 1:18.97 and Genova clinched fifth in 2:31.72. Ienaga took home a fifth-place finish in 1:22.20 after being edged out by just two-tenths of a second.
 
The 200 fly saw more convincing swimming from the Tigers. The senior, Croswhite was the top finisher for the Pack in second place after a 2:27.57 final time. Wess claimed third in 2:29.05 while Genova took fifth to round out the ThunderWolves' efforts in 2:31.72.
 
In the 50 free, Hauber led the ThunderWolves to a third-place finish in 27.03 while Evdokimoff (28.72) and Craig (29.62) took fifth and sixth, respectively. 
 
After the one-meter dive that just contained Tigers took place, the Pack had three swimmers in the 100-yard free. Zanotti claimed third in 59.93 seconds while Wess took fourth in 1:01.70 and Craig finished fifth in 1:04.83.
 
The ThunderWolves bounced back with Zimmerman taking first in the 200 backstroke, as she narrowly defeated the Tigers' challengers with a 2:16.96 effort. Genova and Whitfield turned in times of 2:30.36 and 2:32.48, respectively.
 
Hauber claimed another silver in the 200-yard breaststroke after being edged out by just one-tenth of a second off a 2:41.88 wall-touch. The senior, Miller took fourth in 2:46.71 while Zanotti rounded out the efforts in 3:00.61.
 
Zimmerman claimed another top-placing in the 500 free thanks to a dominant swim that saw victory with a 26-second margin. Copeland took fifth in 6:07.84 and Evdokimoff claimed sixth in 6:19.37. 
 
In the 100 butterfly, Grunloh took second in 1:01.07 to lead CSU Pueblo. Julia Whitfield raced her way to fourth in 1:09.46 while Ienaga took fifth with a 1:17.31 race.
 
With only two more races remaining, the Pack found themselves behind. In the grueling 400-yard individual medley, Wolf grinded her way to a second-place finish in 5:03.88 to lead the ThunderWolves. Croswhite took fourth in the race off a 5:17.40 effort while Braddock rounded out the race with a wall-touch in 5:24.16.
 
The 200-yard freestyle relay finished off the day of swimming between the two battling teams. Miller, Zimmerman, Grunloh, and Whitfield compiled their way to a second place finish in 5:03.88. In the fourth-place relay team for the Pack, Zanotti, Wess, Copeland, and Craig combined for a 1:53.86 final time. Evdokimoff, Ienaga, Croswhite, and Wolf rounded out the event in 1:55.75.
 
The Pack ended up coming up short 188-106 and fell to the Tigers in the dual meet. The senior day meet marked the end of home swim events for the 2021-22 season, and progresses the slate forward into 2022. CSU Pueblo will continue its season in 2022 with a meet at Western Colorado University on Jan. 8.
