Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Pack Come Up Short at Cameron to Start Season

LAWTON, Okla. (Nov. 12, 2021) – The Colorado State University men's basketball team fell short in their second half comeback attempt at Cameron University. The Pack were defeated 74-66 in the season opening game.

For the opening eight minutes, the ThunderWolves and the Aggies found themselves in a back-and-forth contest. The 11-10 lead taken off a Noble Robinson 3-pointer with 12:42 remaining in the first half was the last lead the Pack would enjoy for the remainder of the night.

The Aggies went on an 11-2 run followed by another 7-0 spurt. Cameron would lead by as many as 21 points in the game which was attained at the 3:01 mark. Thanks to some made jumpers from Ross Young, the Pack were reenergized and headed into the locker room trailing 43-30 after an 8-0 run.

Lian Ramiro continued the run in the second half and nailed a jump shot to make it an even 10-0 run stretched from the 2:18 mark in the first half to the 18:21 mark in the second.

The Pack continued to climb their way back into contention slowly. With 15:39 to go in the game, Tristan Hurdle sank a 3-pointer with a hand in his face and put the deficit down to seven with plenty of time remaining. Another three from Ramiro followed and made it a five-point game with over 14 minutes to go on the clock.

The Aggies were not done scoring yet. Cameron used the raucous home crowd to its advantage and expanded the lead back to 10 with under 10 minutes to go. Following two made free throws from Ramiro and a jumper from Young, the game was back to a four-point contest.

Cameron continued to keep the rallying ThunderWolves at bay and out of reach. Ramiro got the Pack within one with another 3-pointer with 3:41 remaining, but the Aggies persisted and found answers.

With 1:47, Elijah Moleon cut it back to a two-point game with a layup after a couple free throws by the Aggies. Cameron refused to relent and sank another three followed by free throws to expand the lead back to seven with 1:11 on the clock.

Another Hurdle three was sunk, but unfortunately for the Pack, it was not enough. The Aggies staved off the threat and clinched a 74-66 win following two last-second free throws.

Ramiro led the CSU Pueblo scoring effort with 17 points and tacked on four assists and two steals to his line.

Young made his Pack debut Friday night and turned in a double-double off 14 points and 11 rebounds. Young shot 6-11 from the floor and tacked on two made free throws. Along with Young, Moleon also made his CSU Pueblo debut. Like Young, Moleon also turned in a double-double performance off 11 points and 10 rebounds.

The Pack shot 14-33 in the second half after a tough 10-31 first half. CSU Pueblo also outscored Cameron 36-31 in the second half despite ultimately falling short at the end of the night.

CSU Pueblo will head down the road Saturday night as the Pack will take on Midwestern State University Texas in Wichita Falls, Texas. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
