Pack host the Grizzlies Wednesday

PUEBLO, Colo. (Jan. 5, 2021) – The Colorado State University Pueblo Men's Basketball hosts Adams State University Jan. 6 at 5:30 p.m. in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference contest at Massari Arena. 
 
No fans will be allowed. A free video stream and live stats will be available. The contest can be heard live on Fox Sports Pueblo AM 1350, online and on the iHeart app. Play-by-play will come from Jim Brooks, the Voice of the ThunderWolves.  
 
VERSUS THE OPPONENT
 
• The ThunderWolves suffered an 83-76 setback at Adams State in the season opener Dec. 9. ASU led 34-24 at the half and matched the Pack in the second half to claim the conference victory. Tre Brown led the team with 21 points and five assists. Lian Ramiro added 15 points and seven rebounds off the bench.   
 
• CSU Pueblo is 18-11 against ASU since the 2005-06 season, but 1-4 in the last five meetings. In the last game at Massari Arena on Dec. 7, 2018, the Grizzlies won 86-74. 
 
LAST TIME OUT
 
• The ThunderWolves grabbed the first win of the season thanks to a quick start and four players scoring in double figures. Tristan Hurdle was the spark in the first half with five 3-pointers and 17 of his 19 points. Lian Ramiro earned his first collegiate start and scored 15 points in the second half on his way to a team-high 20 points. 
 
• De'Shaun Cooper added 15 points and David Simental scored 14 points to round out the double-digit scorers for the Pack. 
 
• CSU Pueblo knocked down seven 3-pointers and shot 59.4 percent from the field in the first half and finished the game with a season-high 53.6 percentage from the field. The Cougars shot 56.9 percent from the field and hit 12 3-pointers, which is one less than their average. The Pack won the glass by a 32-25 margin. The ThunderWolves led the entire game after knocking down the first shot 15 seconds into the contest.
 
• The Pack have struggled in the early minutes of games this season, but that wasn't the case to start 2021, as the ThunderWolves jumped out to a 13-0 lead. Hurdle hit three 3-pointers in the first three minutes of the game to ignite the Pack. 
 
• The ThunderWolves built their largest lead of the game at 42-22 with 5:06 remaining in the first half before settling on a 12-point lead at the break at 48-36. 
 
• With 1:59 remaining the lead was just four at 79-75. Neither team could capitalize on their possessions, while Ramiro hit seven free throws in the final 23 seconds to overcome a furious late charge by CCU. His final free throw iced the game with less than a tick on the clock, as the ThunderWolves won 86-82. 
 
THE PACK
 
Tre Brown leads the team with 17.8 points per game in 32.4 minutes per contest. He sits sixth in the RMAC in scoring. 
 
• Freshman De'Shaun Cooper adds 10.4 points per game and is shooting 85.2 percent from the field to lead the RMAC. His 1.2 blocks per game (6 total) is tied for sixth in the conference. 
 
• Junior guard David Simental is averaging 10.0 points per game and shooting 52.9 percent from the field. 
 
• Freshman guard Lian Ramiro leads the team with 15 assists, which is a 3.0 assists per game average that ranks tied for 10th in the league. He also is the team leader with 22 rebounds. He is scoring 9.8 points per game.

• Head Coach Matt Hammer is in his second season as head coach. 
 
• CSU Pueblo returned four players from last year's roster, while only three saw the floor. The rest of the 14-player roster is made up of four transfers and seven freshmen.
 
THE GRIZZLIES
 
• The Grizzlies are 3-2 overall and in league play. After dropping two straight, ASU went on the road and defeated Colorado Christian 82-78. Adams State had three players score 18 to 20 points in the win and shot 50 percent from the field. 
 
• ASU leads the league with 83.4 points per game, but are last in scoring defense with 81.4 points per game allowed. The Grizzlies lead the conference with a 1.36 assist/turnover ratio and have a +2.2 turnover margin to sit second in the RMAC. Adams State leads the league with 15.8 assists per game. 
 
• The Grizzlies have three players scoring 15 or more points per game. Destan Williams leads the squad with 18.2 points per game and is the team leader with 24 assists. Kaelin Crane owns 17 points per game and is shooting 56.7 percent from the field. In three games, Frederick Jackson has scored 15.7 points per game, is shooting 73.1 percent from the field and has 7.7 rebounds per game. 
 
• Rylan O'Brien has 12.2 points per game and a team-high 14 3-pointers made.
