PUEBLO, Colo. (June 10, 2020) – The Colorado State University Pueblo and Texas A&M-Kingsville athletic departments mutually agreed to cancel the football matchup between the two schools for Sept. 5 of the 2020 season, Wednesday.

"We appreciate the positive working relationship with Texas A&M-Kingsville and are disappointed we can't make the trip," said Dr. Paul Plinske, CSU Pueblo Director of Athletics. "We are excited about six home games in 2020. We are still uncertain how this fall competitive season will look but are committed to making it as normal and safe as possible for our student-athletes and fans."

"We are disappointed to cancel a home football game," said Steve Roach, Executive Director of Athletics and Campus Recreation, "but with the uncertainty surrounding the fall season from the ongoing pandemic, we came to an agreement that this was in the best interest of both programs for the upcoming year."

The decision is based on changes to the fall schedule set down by the NCAA Division II Presidents Council that reduced the maximum number of football games to 10 as well as logistical considerations for both athletic departments. With the cancellation, The ThunderWolves will play a 10-game schedule with nine Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference contests, while the Javelinas will play a nine-game schedule with seven Lone Star Conference matchups.

The Javelinas were scheduled to host the ThunderWolves on Sept. 5 at Pepsi Field at Javelina Stadium, which would have been the season opener for both programs. With the cancellation, both teams will start the season on Sept. 12. CSU Pueblo will host Grand Valley State University with a 6 p.m. kickoff at the Neta and Eddie DeRose ThunderBowl. TAMUK will now open the season on the road against Western Oregon.

The Pack will have six home games in 2020 with four road contests. CSU Pueblo Athletics plans to sell 2020 season tickets, with new COVID-19 guidelines in place, in July.
