Box Score 4 LUBBOCK, Tex. (February 9, 2020) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo softball team finished play at the Lubbock Sports Invitational Sunday, after playing five games against regional opponents over the three day action packed weekend.
Despite going winless, the Pack offense began the new season on a high note. As a team, the ThunderWolves totaled 40 hits, including seven doubles and one triple. The Pack scored 21 runs over the weekend.
Senior outfielder 
Sabrina Felix (Corona, Calif.) went 7-for-14 at the plate which included three doubles and one triple to go with three runs batted in. Felix earned four free passes over the weekend.
Isabel Griego (So., Loveland, Colo.) also put up seven hits and scored five runs for the Pack.
Versus Southern Nazarene:
In the season opener against the Crimson Storm, CSU-Pueblo fought back after going down by three runs and took a 4-3 lead into the home half of the fifth before SNU scored five runs in their at bat. The ThunderWolves scored two runs in the seventh got the go ahead run to the plate before a groundout ended the game.
Junior 
Kaitlyn Glaze (Erie, Colo.) went 3-for-4 at the dish and added an RBI in the effort.
Versus Eastern New Mexico:
The ThunderWolves played their first extra inning game of the season against Eastern New Mexico. The Pack outhit ENMU by a 13-12 clip, guided by Griego's three hits. CSU-Pueblo took a 2-1 lead after the first inning on a pair of doubles hit by 
Gabby Moreno (Sr., Scottsdale, Ariz.) and Felix.
ENMU plated three runs in the next frame for a two-run lead before the Pack scored single runs over the next two innings and tied the game at 4-4 after three innings.
The Pack took a 6-4 lead in the fifth, capitalizing on a defensive error. 
Alyssa McWilliams (So., Windsor, Colo.) slugged an RBI-double down the right field line, along with a walk drawn by Moreno with the bases loaded accounted for the runs.
The Greyhounds regained the lead by one in the top half of the sixth and the ThunderWolves responded, tying the game on a wild pitch that scored Felix who led off the inning with her second double of the contest. She advanced to third on a single by 
Marissa Piatt (Jr., San Luis Obispo, Calif.).
A scoreless final frame by both teams led to extras where ENMU scored three runs on two singles through the infield.
The Pack's final rally attempt fell short in the 10-7 defeat.
Versus St. Edward's
In the lone game of the day Saturday, the Pack was held to three hits in the game. Felix hit another RBI-double, coming in the first inning. The Pack kept the pressure and took a one run lead in the third after they loaded the bases, thanks to two base on balls and a RBI-sac flyout by 
Melissa Torrez (So., Buena Park, Calif.). Following a pitching change by SEU, the Pack left the bases juiced after a strikeout ended the frame.
St. Edward's evened the score at three apiece in their half of the third inning.
CSU-Pueblo scored on a passed ball during the fourth inning and held a 4-3 lead.
SEU erupted for nine runs over the next two innings and ended the game in the bottom of the fifth after taking a 12-4 lead. The game was called due to the eight-run run rule.
Versus Fort Hays State
Starting the final day of the weekend, the ThunderWolves scored first in the bottom of the first frame on an RBI-double by Moreno.
The Pack held the 1-0 lead throughout much of the game until the fifth inning when the Tigers scored four runs on four hits, taking a 4-1 lead.
CSU-Pueblo got within one run on RBI-hits by Piatt and 
Karlee Salas (Jr., Pueblo, Colo.).
FHSU added a single run in the seventh, setting up the Pack's final attempt down by two.
A double-play in the seventh inning helped to put the game away, a 5-3 Pack defeat.
Versus Lubbock Christian 
The Pack wrapped up the weekend against tournament host Lubbock Christian, falling 5-1 to the Lady Chaparrals.
LCU scored three runs in the first, as the Pack was tagged with three errors in the inning.
The lone run for the Pack came in the second inning after Felix tripled down the right field line and would score on a groundout on the infield.
Six Pack players recorded one hit. LCU scored two more runs in the fifth and shutout the Pack over the final two frames to come away with the win.
CSU-Pueblo (0-5) will travel next week to wrap nonconference play. The ThunderWolves will compete at the Edmonds Regional Festival (Feb. 14-16), where they will face St. Edward's and Lubbock Christian for a second time. The schedule also pits the ThunderWolves against Oklahoma Baptist, Oklahoma Christian, and Northeastern State.
