ThunderWolves fall on the road to Hardrockers

RAPID CITY, S.D. (Feb. 8, 2020) – The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's basketball team lost 73-44 in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference road game at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, Saturday in Rapid City, South Dakota. 
 
The ThunderWolves (10-13, 8-9 RMAC) were down just two at the half, but went ice cold in the second half and scored just 15 points in the final 20 minutes. On the other side, the Hardrockers (13-10, 10-7 RMAC) heated up in the second frame to run away with the victory. 
 
The Pack shot 34 percent from the field (22.2% in the second) half and 14.3 percent from long range (0-9 in the second half). The home team shot 50 percent from the field in the second half and finished with a 46.2 percentage from the field. The Hardrockers also converted on 20-of-22 (90.9%) from the free throw line. 
 
Guard David Simental (R-So., Pueblo West, Colo.) was the lone player in double figures with 12 points.
 
The score was tied seven times and the lead changed on six occasions in the first half. Neither team had an advantage as large as three until South Dakota Mines took a 23-19 lead with 5:28 remaining in the opening frame. CSU-Pueblo responded with a 10-4 run, capped by a senior Donovan Oldham (F, Colorado Springs, Colo.) 3-pointer, to lead 29-27 with 1:30 showing on the clock. The Hardrockers would score the final four points and take a 31-29 advantage into the locker room. 
 
CSU-Pueblo couldn't buy a basket in the second half and 9:30 minutes in they had just one point and trailed 54-30. The deficit would finish at 29. 
 
The ThunderWolves move on to host a pair of league games Feb. 14-15 against University of Colorado Colorado Springs and Colorado School of Mines. The Pack will celebrate National Girls and Women in Sport Day Friday and Alumni Night on Saturday.
