GOLDEN, Colo. (Feb. 16, 2020) – In the final action of the regular season, 
Isaiah Diggs (Sr., Federal Way, Wash.), 
Parker McBride (Jr., Duvall, Wash.) and 
Gavin Melendez (R-Jr., Los Banos, Calif.) of the Colorado State University-Pueblo wrestling team were crowned champions of their weight divisions at the Rocky Mountain Collegiate Open, hosted by Colorado School of Mines.
 
McBride won at 125 with a 2-0 record. After a bye in the first round, he won by fall in 1:54 against a wrestler from Colorado State University. He then used a 5-4 decision victory in the championship bout to defeat a member of Colorado Mesa University. 
 
At 149, Melendez needed four victories to claim the title. He dominated his way through the bracket with two major decisions, a technical fall and an 8-2 decision win. He started with a 21-5 tech fall against a member of CSU and then won by an 8-2 decision against a wrestler from Chadron State College. His final two victories came by major decision, as he won 14-4 in the semifinal and 18-5 in the final against two unattached wrestlers. 
 
Diggs finished first at 157 after four victories against unattached wrestlers. He started the day with a 16-5 major decision, then won by a 13-6 decision. In the semifinal he claimed a 9-4 decision win and then had his closest battle of the day in the title bout, winning by a 6-4 decision. 
 
At 133, senior No. 11 
D'Andre Brumfield (Dallas, Texas) went 4-1 to finish third. Four of his bouts were against unattached wrestlers, which included his first three where he won by a 23-8 technical fall and by a 4-3 decision before being pinned and forced to the consolation side of the bracket. He grabbed a 5-2 decision win against a wrestler from Chadron State to advance to the third place match. He needed extra time to secure the win, as he earned a takedown in sudden victory one to win, 5-3. 
 
Junior 
Ruben Garcia (Selma, Calif.) was fourth at 165, as he went 3-2 with two falls. He claimed both his pins in his first two bouts, as he won in just 41 seconds against a wrestler from Grand Canyon University and then needed 3:00 to dispatch his second opponent. He lost by a narrow 14-13 decision in the semifinal to get pushed to the consolation side of the bracket. Next he met teammate 
Elijah Valdez (R-Fr., Colorado Springs, Colo.), who finished the day 2-2 with a major decision and fall, and won by an 8-4 decision. He was unable to wrestle the final bout due to a medical forfeit. 
 
Next is the NCAA Division II Super Region IV Championships, set for Feb. 29 in Kearney, Nebraska.
