GOLDEN, Colo. (Feb. 14, 2020) – The Colorado State University-Pueblo wrestling team secured five bout victories Friday at No. 9 Colorado School of Mines, but lost the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference dual, 26-20, to the league champions.

Bonus point victories help guide the Orediggers (9-2, 7-0 RMAC) to the victory against the ThunderWolves (4-7, 3-4 RMAC), who produced three bonus point wins of their own.

Starting at 133, the Pack took a 10-6 lead through four matches.

No. 11 D'Andre Brumfield (Sr., Dallas, Texas) got things going with a 13-4 major decision win at 133. He had four takedowns in the win and scored seven points in the third period.

At 149, Jasiah Williams (R-Jr., Portland, Ore.) wrestled just his third bout of the season and picked up a 5-3 decision win. He attacked early and grabbed both of his takedowns in the first period to lead 4-2 after three minutes. An escape point in the second proved to be enough to get the win.

Next at 157, senior Isaiah Diggs (Federal Way, Wash.) led just 2-1 after two periods before exploding for five points in the third to secure a 7-2 decision win and a 5-1 RMAC season.

The next three bouts went the way of Mines by technical fall and two pins to jump out to a 23-10 lead. Brendon Kelley (Jr., Evansville, Ind.) put up a fight against the No. 2 wrestler in the nation at 174, as he was leading 6-3 after the first and 12-6 during the second period before he was reversed and eventually pinned later in the frame.

No. 12 Gavin Nye (R-So., Gerber, Calif.) got the Pack back in the win column with a clean 14-0 major decision win at heavyweight to secure a perfect 6-0 conference season. He scored nine points in the third period. Nye will take a nine match win streak into the regional championships.

Finally, at 125, Parker McBride (Jr., Duvall, Wash.) returned to the lineup after missing most of the RMAC dual season due to injury and scored a second period pin at 4:22 to claim the win and six team points. He was trailing 6-3 after the first, but scored three points in the second before winning by fall.

CSU-Pueblo will send a group of wrestlers back to Golden on Sunday to compete in the Rocky Mountain Collegiate Open, which is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
