PUEBLO, Colo. (Feb. 1, 2020) – The Colorado State University-Pueblo wrestling team upset No. 12 San Francisco State University Saturday by the score of 38-10 in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference bout at Massari Arena.
The ThunderWolves totaled five bonus point wins, as they improved to 3-5 overall and 2-2 in RMAC duals. The Gators (7-8, 1-6 RMAC) forfeited two bouts and came away with just one match victory.
CSU-Pueblo started the evening forfeiting at 125, but back-to-back major decision victories handed the ThunderWolves an 8-6 lead.

D'Andre Brumfield (R-Sr., Dallas, Texas) dominated his match at 133 and won by a score of 16-4. He led 6-1 heading to the third period and then totaled four takedowns in the final two minutes to total seven for the match and earn the major.
At 141, junior
Dino Cancellieri (Wayne, N.J.) earned his first victory as a member of the ThunderWolves, as he won by a 10-2 major decision. He also had a strong final period with six points.
Forfeits by SFSU at 149 and 157 guided the Pack to a 20-6 lead heading to the final five matches. Redshirt-freshman
Elijah Valdez (Colorado Springs, Colo.) added to the lead with a first period pin at 2:01. He had two early takedowns before securing his eighth fall of the season.
Brendon Kelley (Jr., Evansville, Ind.) grabbed a major decision victory at 174 when a ride time point landed him eight points ahead, 12-4. Kelley led 6-2 after the first and 9-2 after the second. He grabbed the major with another takedown in the third.
At 197, freshman
Ben Gould (Canyon Country, Calif.) wrestled hard and used a takedown and four-point nearfall in the final minute of the third period to post a 9-2 decision win.
At heavyweight,
Gavin Nye (R-So., Gerber, Calif.) racked up 20 points and totaled five takedowns and two four-point nearfalls to record a 20-4 technical fall victory.
Up next, the ThunderWolves travel to New Mexico Highlands University Feb. 6 for an RMAC dual at 6 p.m. The Pack return home Feb. 8 for the final dual at Massari Arena and Senior Night. CSU-Pueblo hosts Western Colorado University at 6 p.m.
