Zimmerman shines in debut as Pack goes 1-1 on Senior Day

PUEBLO, Colo. (October 10, 2020) – Colorado State University Pueblo Swimming & Diving celebrated the careers of its three seniors Saturday with a 1-1 showing in its first and last home meet of the season.

The ThunderWolves beat Adams State University 167-97 Saturday at the Sam Jones Aquatic Center. However, Western Colorado University bested the Pack 153-117.

Although it was senior day, it was a freshman who dominated for the Pack. Katy Zimmerman (Fr., Cypress, Texas) won three events for the ThunderWolves. Zimmerman set a pool record in the 500 Free with a time of 5:18.49, beating the previous record holder, WCU's Arden Tesch by 14 second en route to a first place finish.

Zimmerman also claimed victory in her first collegiate race, the 200 Free with a time of  1:59.05. Teammate Melissa Braddock (So., Wigan, Great Manchester, England, UK) took second with a time of 2:04.82. The second place finish was the best of Braddock's career.

In the meet's last event, the 1000 Free, the ThunderWolves swept the top three spots. Zimmerman touched the wall in first with a time of 10:59.09. Braddock seized her second runner-up finish of the day with a time of 11:34.30.  Mckenna Hauber (So., Gillette, Wyo.) placed third with a time of 11:43.88.

Zimmerman accounted for 27 points against both Western Colorado and Adams State. Braddock swam personal bests in both the 200 Free and 500 Free. She earned 11 points for the Pack with two second place finishes and a third place finishes.

Kate Miller (Sr., Draper, Utah) earned a win on her Senior Day. Miller took first place in the 50 Breast. Miller's time of 33.31 ranks as the fifth-fastest in program history.  She also placed sixth in the 100 Breast (1:15.11).

Holly Humphries (So., Cypress, Texas) won the three meter dive with a score of 145.35. She also took second in the one meter dive with a score of 178.80.

Jillian Abrian (So., Ladera Ranch, Calif.) won the 50 Free in a time of 28.91. Abrian also placed fourth in the 50 Free with the Pack's top time of 26.14. Competing in diving for the first time in her career, Abrian placed fourth in 1M dive (68.83).

Hauber rounded out her day with a second place finish in the 200 IM with a time of 2:19.87. Hauber also took third in the 100 Free with a mark of 57.32.

Alyssa Basaldua (Fr., Katy, Texas) scored second place points in the 100 Fly (1:04.93). Kristen Wolf (So., Topeka, Kan.) led the Pack with a third place finish in the 100 Breast with a time of 1:14.03.

Competing on her senior day Bristyn Croswhite's (Tempe, Ariz.) top finish came with a sixth place showing in the 100 Fly (1:08.66). Shion Ienaga (Sr., Phoenix, Ariz.) had her best showing on senior day in the 50 Breast (38.69) and 100 Breast (1:24.00). Ienaga took 10th in both events.

After a 1-1 start to the season, the Pack will have a month to prepare for their next meet,  A3 Performance Invite. The A3 Performance Invite is scheduled for Nov. 19-21 in Grand Junction, Colo.
