PUEBLO, Colo. (Jan. 23, 2020) – The Colorado State University-Pueblo wrestling team continues the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference dual season on the road Friday at No. 25 Colorado Mesa University. The match is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.

The ThunderWolves are 2-3 overall and 1-0 in RMAC duals after defeating then-No. T-17 Chadron State College Saturday by the score of 22-14. The Pack had six wrestlers earn victories in the win.Â

CSU-Pueblo had two wrestlers enter the top 12 in NCAA Division II in this week's National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) poll. A national qualifier last year, senior
D'Andre Brumfield (Dallas, Texas) is ranked No. 11 at 133 after he started the season 3-1, which included a win against a ranked opponent last week. Sophomore heavyweight
Gavin Nye (Gerber, Calif.) is ranked No. 12, as he owns a 9-6 record with three pins. Â

The Mavericks are 5-3 in dual action with a 1-0 record against RMAC competition. CMU is coming off a 2-0 finish at the Coker Duals Saturday where it defeated Lander University (21-13) and Coker University (31-13). The Mavericks are ranked No. 25 this season and have three wrestlers ranked in the top 12 nationally. Payton Tawater is No. 8 at 157, Fred Green is No. 10 at 165 and Donnie Negus ranks No. 11 at 197.

The Pack have won three straight against the Mavericks, which includes a 25-18 victory last season in Pueblo. In the last meeting in Grand Junction in 2018, CSU-Pueblo came away with a 24-18 win.Â

Six wrestlers for CSU-Pueblo recorded wins, as the ThunderWolves began RMAC duals with a 22-14 upset victory against host No. T-17 Chadron State College.

The ThunderWolves grabbed bonus wins at 157, 174 and at heavyweight, which clinched the bout for the Pack. CSU-Pueblo also recorded two upset wins against ranked Eagles.

Parker McBride (Jr., Duvall, Wash.) got things started with a 6-3 decision, which was aided by a reversal to start the third period. Next up,Â
D'Andre Brumfield (R-Sr., Dallas, Texas) secured an upset win at 133. He defeated No. 9 Brandon Kile 3-2 with the only takedown in the match coming in the first period.Â

The ThunderWolves' lead went to 9-4 afterÂ
Gavin Melendez (Los Banos, Calif.) grabbed a 5-2 decision win at 149. He used first and third period takedowns to secure the victory.Â

At the midway point of the dual, CSU-Pueblo led 13-4, thanks to a upset win at 157 byÂ
Isaiah Diggs (R-Sr., Federal Way, Wash.). He won by a dominating 17-5 major decision against No. 7 Chase Clasen. Diggs totaled six takedowns in the win.Â

A 14-5 major decision victory by
 Brendon Kelley (Jr., Evansville, Ind.) at 174 pushed the Pack advantage to 17-7. He opened the match with a 10-2 lead after the first period.Â

CSC wins at 184 and 197 moved the ThunderWolves lead to 17-14 heading to the final bout.Â
Gavin Nye (Gerber, Calif.) left no doubt for the Pack, as four-point near-falls in the second and third periods guided the sophomore to a 18-1 technical fall victory and five team points. The bonus win pushed the CSU-Pueblo lead to a final score of 22-14.Â
