Pack Celebrates Colorado College Classic Championship

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (January 19, 2020) – After three days of competition, Colorado State University-Pueblo Swimming & Diving won the Colorado College Classic at the Schlessman Natatorium.
 
The Pack scored 850.5 points over three days, enough to best the other five teams in the field. CSU-Pueblo outscored the host Tigers by 64 points. The Pack finished the year 2-1 against the Tigers after beating them for the first time ever this season.
 
Sarah Steele (Fr., Pueblo, Colo.) got the Pack off to a great start. In the meet's first event, Steele set a new Pack record with a score of 336.45 Steele also shined in the one meter dive, scoring 372.90 points, the third-highest total in program history. She scored 30 total points for the Pack.
 
Bristyn Croswhite (Jr., Tempe, Ariz.) capped off day one of the event with a third place showing in the 1650 swim. Croswhite touched the wall in a time of 20:31.66. Kate Miller (Jr., Draper, Utah) took fourth with a mark of 20:37.61.
 
Selina Wang (Fr., Taipei, Taiwan) earned the Pack's first win of the meet.  Wang took first in the 100 Free with a time of 54.24. Phoebe Ponious (Sr., Caledonia, Mich.) placed third with a time of 55.38.  
 
McKenna Hauber (Fr., Gillette, Wyo.) claimed first in the 400 IM. Hauber bested her closest competition by just .44 seconds with a time of 4:55.17. She also took second in the 200 IM (2:18.69).
 
Wang was barely out-touched in the 100 Back. The freshman took second with a time of 1:03.02, just .05 seconds out of first place.
 
CSU-Pueblo picked up a win in the 400 Free Relay. Julia Whitfield (So., Wichita, Kan.) and Jillian Abrian (Fr., Ladera Ranch, Calif.) joined Wang and Pontious to post the winning time of 3:44.98.
 
Alyssa Grunloh (So., Round Rock, Texas) was the Pack's top finisher in three events, the 200 and 500 Free and the 200 Fly. Grunloh took third in the 500 Free (5:35.63). She took fourth in both 200 Fly (2:29.47) and 200 Free (2:08.50).
 
Wang returned to seize first in the 50 Free with a time of 24.73. Pontious took second with a time of 25.12.
 
Pontious swam the first leg of the Pack's 200 Free relay. Wang anchored the relay with Abrian and Whitifield swam the middle legs as the Pack took first with a time of 1:41.05.
 
The Pack will look to continue this momentum into their next meet, the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships. The RMAC Championships will be held Feb. 12-15.
