PUEBLO, Colo. (Jan. 18, 2020) – The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's basketball team used a team effort to post an 85-71 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference victory Saturday against Chadron State College in front of 2,377 fans at Massari Arena.
The ThunderWolves (8-9, 6-5 RMAC) shot 57.1 percent from the field, which was guided by 62.1 percent in the second half. The Pack won the rebounding battle 43-31 and totaled seven blocks.
Senior
Jason Anderson (C, Colorado Springs, Colo.) went 10-for-11 (90.9%) from the field and 4-for-6 from the line to reach 24 points. He also added nine rebounds with two steals and a block.
Senior
Brandon McGhee (G, Oakland, Calif.) posted a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds and flirted with a triple-double with seven assists. He was 7-for-13 (53.8%) from the field.
Freshman
Jaedon Bowles (F, Aurora, Colo.) added 11 points and five rebounds, while sophomore
Tyson Gilbert (G, Highlands Ranch, Colo.) came off the bench and contributed 10 points and seven rebounds with three assists.
All six lead changes and the five occasions the game was tied occurred in the first half. The Eagles' largest lead was seven with 6:33 left in the first half with the score at 30-23. CSU-Pueblo responded and finished the half on a 17-3 run to hold a seven-point advantage, 40-33, at the break. Six different players scored down the stretch, as
Bendeguz Bonifert (Jr., Szeged, Hungry) scored all seven of his points in the run.
CSU-Pueblo opened a nine point lead early in the second half, but Chadron State didn't quit and came back to be within one at 51-50 with 13:13 left in regulation.
CSU-Pueblo hit back and a 6-0 run made it a seven-point lead again at 57-50. CSC was within three at 59-56 with 8:53 showing on the game clock, but the home team wouldn't allow the Eagles to get within two possessions the rest of the way.
The Pack closed the door in the final four minutes and only allowed two points the rest of the game to record the 14-point victory.
The ThunderWolves remain at home Jan. 24-25 with South Dakota Mines & Technology and Black Hills State University. Both contests are slated for a 7:30 p.m. start.
