ThunderWolves host Roadrunner and Eagles in RMAC contests

PUEBLO, Colo. (Jan. 16, 2020) – The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's basketball hosts Metro State University of Denver and Chadron State College in two Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference games Jan. 17-18. Both games are slated to begin at 7:30 p.m. Saturday is Take A Kid To A Game Night at Massari Arena, which will feature Denver Nuggets Super Mascot Rocky. 
 
TAKE A KID TO A GAME NIGHT
 
Presented by Legacy Bank, Rocky will perform during the Pack women's and men's basketball games. All kids 17 & under will receive free general admission tickets to the doubleheader between the Pack and Eagles. There will be a Kid Zone at Massari for Take A Kid To A Game Night. This Kid Zone will feature coloring and face-paint stations, free drinks donated by Pepsi, and autographs from Pack Basketball student-athletes. Kids can also take a picture with CSU-Pueblo mascot, Wolfie.

This game is also NBA night at Massari Arena. Fans are encouraged to wear jerseys and shirts inspired by their favorite NBA teams.

THE PACK
 
• The ThunderWolves (7-8, 5-4 RMAC) went 1-1 on the road last weekend. The Pack won 79-71 at Western Colorado University Friday, but had their three-game win streak snapped at Colorado Mesa University in an 86-74 loss. 
 
• The ThunderWolves shot 45.6 percent from the field in the game, while the Mountaineers were held to 42.6 percent. CSU-Pueblo was outrebounded 40-30, but forced 17 WCU turnovers that aided 14 points off those giveaways and 15 fast break points. Guard David Simental guided the Pack with 21 points. Forward Bryce Sanchious came off the bench and dropped 16 points. 
 
• CMU shot nearly 60 percent and defeated the Pack, 86-74. The ThunderWolves shot 43.5 percent in the game, while the Mavericks hit 59.3 percent and at one point during the second half were shooting at a 66 percent clip. CSU-Pueblo knocked down 10 3-pointers, while CMU had five. Colorado Mesa won the rebounding category 41-21, which included 11 offensive boards that guided 18-second chance points. The Pack totaled 15 points off 13 turnovers by the home team, while only turning the ball over seven times. Five players scored in double figures with 15 each by forward Jaedon Bowles and guard Tyson Gilbert.

• Simental was named RMAC Offensive Player of the Week Dec. 9 after the first weekend of RMAC play. He averaged 30 points per game, shot 56.1 percent from the field (23-of-41) and 50 percent from long range, as he went 8-for-16. He was 6-for-8 (75%) from the free throw line. The 42 points in an overtime loss at Fort Lewis is the fifth most in program history, the most by an RMAC player this season and tied for fifth most in NCAA Division II in 2019-20.
 
• Five different players are scoring in double figures and four different players have 4.1 or more rebounds per contest. 

• Simental leads the team with 17.1 points per game to rank T-4th in the RMAC. His 20.7 points per conference game is 4th in the league. He is the only player to have started each of the 15 contests. He is 66-for-73 from the free throw line for a 90.4 percentage that ranks 2nd in the RMAC. His 33.7 minutes per game ranks 5th in the league. 
 
• Senior guard Brandon McGhee adds 12.7 points per game and is shooting 53.1 percent from the field to rank 5th in the RMAC. He leads the team with 4.2 assists per game that is 5th in the RMAC. He adds 4.1 rebounds per contest. His 1.5 assist/turnover ratio is 8th in the conference. McGhee's 18 steals is a team-high.
 
• Sophomore guard Tyson Gilbert has started seven games and is tied for the team-lead on the team with 30 3-pointers with a 49.5 percentage from long range. He is averaging 10.6 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game. He knocked down six 3-pointers Dec. 18 in a road loss to New Mexico Highlands.
 
• Junior forward Bryce Sanchious owns 10.6 points per game and has pulled down a team-best 5.4 rebounds per contest. The junior also leads the team with 11 blocks. He recorded back-to-back double-doubles the first RMAC weekend at Adams State (10 points, 13 rebounds) and Fort Lewis (17 points, 10 rebounds). 
 
• Freshman forward Jaedon Bowles has produced 10.1 points per game with nine contests coming off the bench. He is tied with Gilbert for a team-best 30 3-pointers and is shooting 46.2 percent from long range.
 
• Senior forward Donovan Oldham adds 8.3 points and 4.9 rebounds. Senior center Jason Anderson owns 7.8 points and 5.2 rebounds per game with a 58.8 percentage from the field. 
 
• The Pack average 78.8 points per game to rank 5th in the RMAC and allow 80.1 points per contest for 13th in the conference. 
 
• The team is shooting 47.8 percent from the field to rank 4th in the RMAC. The ThunderWolves' 37.2 percentage from long range is 5th, while their 8.3 3-pointers per game is tied for 4th.

• CSU-Pueblo ranks 4th in the league in blocks with 3.3 swats per game. 

THE ROADRUNNERS

• The Roadrunners are 8-7 overall with a 4-5 RMAC record. MSU Denver is coming off a 2-0 home weekend with wins against then-No. 19 Dixie State University (60-57) and Westminster College (70-64).  The Roadrunners enter the game 0-5 in road contests and 0-6 in games away from their home gym. 
 
• MSU Denver is scoring 71.1 points per game to rank 14th in the RMAC, while on the other end their 69.3 points per contest allowed is 4th best. 
 
• The Roadrunners rank 3rd in the league in field goal percentage defense, holding their opponents to 41.9 percent. 
 
• MSU Denver ranks 2nd in the RMAC in blocked shots with 4.33 rejections per game. The team sits T-3rd in the conference with a +1.73 turnover margin and has brought down 36.9 rebounds per game to sit T-4th.
 
* The Roadrunners have one player scoring in double figures with Druce Asah leading the way with 14.2 points per game. His 2.6 3-pointers per game ranks 4th in the league, while his 36.6 percentage from long range is good for 3rd.
 
• Mitch Lombard has 9.7 points per game with a team-best 3.9 assists per contest (T-7th in the RMAC). He has a team-high 19 steals and his 1.4 assist/turnover ratio ranks T-9th in the league.
 
• Elijah Slaughter leads the way with 5.5 rebounds per game, while Maris Colton adds 5.4 boards per contest. Slaughter is 5th in the RMAC with 1.0 blocks per game (15 total). 
 
• Kendall McIntosh's 21 blocks (1.4 bpg) is good for 1st in the RMAC.   
 
THE EAGLES

• The Eagles are 3-12 overall with a 2-7 RMAC record. CSC has lost seven of its last eight games, which includes last weekend's home losses to Westminster College (83-72) and then-No. 19 Dixie State University (88-68). 
 
• Chadron State has 72.6 points per game to rank 13th in the RMAC and are allowing 75.3 points per contest to sit 10th. 
 
• The Eagles sit 5th in the league in field goal percentage defense, while holding their opponents to a 43.1 percentage. 
 
• CSC is shooting 75.6 percent from the free throw line to rank 4th in the RMAC.  
 
• The Eagles have three players scoring in double figures with 16.5 points per game (8th in the RMAC) coming from Brian Rodriguez-Flores. He also leads the team with 37 3-pointers , as his 2.5 3-pointers per game is good for T-5th in the league. He also brings down a team-best 5.7 rebounds per game. 
 
• Colby Jackson adds 11.6 points per game with a team-best 5.5 assists per contest that sits 2nd in the RMAC. Jackson's 1.7 assist/turnover ratio ranks T-7th in he conference. 
 
• Jacob Jefferson is contributing 11.2 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. 
 
NEXT UP
 
The ThunderWolves wrap four straight games at home Jan. 24-25 with South Dakota School of Mines & Technology and Black Hills State University coming to town. Both contests are scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
