GUNNISON, Colo. (Jan. 11, 2020) – The Colorado State University-Pueblo wrestling team defeated Findlay University Saturday at the 30th Annual Tracy Borah Duals to open the dual season. The ThunderWolves went 1-3 on the day in Gunnison, Colorado. 
 
A total of six wrestlers had two victories. Ruben Garcia (Jr., Selma, Calif.) was 2-0 at 157, while three student-athletes had a 2-1 record, which included D'Andre Brumfield (R-Sr., Dallas, Texas) at 133, Gavin Melendez (Los Banos, Calif.) at 149 and Gavin Nye (Gerber, Calif.) at heavyweight. The two others to gather two wins and post a 2-2 record were Parker McBride (Jr., Duvall, Wash.) at 125 and Ben Gould (Fr., Canyon Country, Calif.) at 197. 
 
The Pack started the day with a 26-12 loss to University of Indianapolis. CSU-Pueblo grabbed a couple wins in the middle weights, as Garcia was victorious by a 10-6 decision and Isaiah Diggs (R-Sr., Federal, Wash.) won at 165 by a 5-2 decision. Gould grabbed a 4-0 decision win before Nye capped the dual with an 8-3 decision victory. 
 
In a 38-9 loss to Air Force Academy, Melendez got a win against a Division I foe by a 2-0 decision. 
 
In the third dual of the day, the ThunderWolves secured a 25-15 victory against Findlay. Seven wrestlers were victorious in the team win. CSU-Pueblo took a 13-6 lead through the first five bouts with decision wins by McBride (5-0), Melendez (6-4) and Garcia (8-6), while Brumfield grabbed a 13-1 major decision win. The Pack closed the match with three straight wins with Jayson Davis' (Fr., Pueblo, Colo.) 2-1 decision at 184 and a Gould 3-0 decision. Nye secured a first-period pin at 1:19. 
 
The Pack closed the day with a 19-18 loss to University of North Carolina Pembroke. CSU-Pueblo was up 6-0 after decision wins by McBride (3-2) and Brumfield (6-1). After losses at the next two weight classes Justin Davis (R-So., Pueblo, Colo.) won by pinfall at 2:38 at 157 to give the ThunderWolves a 12-7 lead. Unfortunately, the Pack wouldn't score any more points until a forfeit at heavyweight made it a 19-18 final. 
 
Next up for the Pack is the start of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference season. CSU-Pueblo travels to Chadron State College Jan. 18 for a 6 p.m. bout against the Eagles.
