Women's soccer welcomes No. 10 West Texas and Lubbock Christian to open 2019 season

PUEBLO, Colo. (September 4, 2019) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo women's soccer team is set to open the 2019 season this week with a pair of nonconference home matches against No. 10 ranked West Texas A&M and Lubbock Christian.

The Sierra Cardenas-led ThunderWolves will face the Buffs of West Texas at 5 p.m. and will tangle against LCU Saturday at 12 p.m.

The Pack is back on the pitch after a two-week training session which included competing in three exhibition matches and will be guided this season by three seniors that include Rylie Martin (Colorado Springs, Colo.), Justine Martinez (Pueblo, Colo.) and Alicia Ramirez (Oro Valley, Ariz.).

The roster also sports eleven freshmen who will look to make an immediate impact.

As a team, the ThunderWolves will seek to make their fourth consecutive appearance in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament.

Opponent Capsules

West Texas A&M: The Lady Buffs finished the 2018 season with a 15-4-3 mark after reaching the NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals match. In that contest, WTAMU dropped a 5-0 decision against UC-San Diego. During their tournament run, the Buffs defeated UC-Colorado Springs and Dallas Baptist, advancing on penalty kicks.

The ThunderWolves beat West Texas 2-0 at home in the season opener in 2018. All-time, the squads are even with a 5-5-1 clip and the Pack holds a 2-2-1 record in games played at home.

Lubbock Christian: LCU begins their season with a Colorado trip that pits them against No. 24 UCCS Wednesday, before they make their way south to take on the ThunderWolves. The Lady Chaps finished the 2018 season with a 9-10 record and was picked to finish seventh this season in the Lone Star Conference.
