Pack Men’s Golf returns home for Farmers Insurance Samuel Proal Invite

PUEBLO, Colo. (September 15, 2019) – For the first time in over 375 days, Colorado State University-Pueblo Men's Golf will tee off at home, when they host the Farmers Insurance Samuel Proal Invitational Monday Sept. 16th and Tuesday Sept. 17th at Walking Stick Golf Course.

The ThunderWolves are looking to win their home tournament for the fourth consecutive season.  CSU-Pueblo edged out New Mexico Junior College by two strokes last season to win the 2018 Farmers Insurance Samuel Proal Invitational.
 
The Pack opened its season with a fifth place finish at the Ryan Palmer Invitational last week. CSU-Pueblo ended the tournament +7 at the Tascosa Country Club.
 
Andrew Ni (Jr., Edinburgh, Scotland, UK) won last year's Farmers Insurance Samuel Proal Invitational while competing for NMJC. Ni shot a -15 (201) last year, including a -8 (64) in his second round. Now competing for the Pack, Ni looks to repeat as champion. In his first tournament with the Pack, Ni placed fifth with a -5 (208). Ni finished three strokes shy of a win.
 
With the addition of Ni, the Pack now has the last two Farmers Insurance Samuel Proal Invitational winners on its roster. Nathan McCann (Jr., Lurgan Armagh, Ireland) won the Farmers Insurance Samuel Proal Invitational two years ago. McCann shot a -8 (208) in the 2017 Farmers Insurance Samuel Proal Invite.
 
A national qualifier a year ago, McCann started his 2019-20 season with a 12th place showing at the Ryan Palmer Invite. McCann shot a – 1 (212) in his first tournament of the year.
 
Jamie Roberts (Fr., Kinross, Scotland, UK) shined in his Pack debut. Roberts finished with a +4 (217) to take 32nd place at the Ryan Palmer invite.
 
Clay Kucera (Jr., Chaska, Minn.) and Matthew McCulloch (Sr., Stranraer, Dumfries & Galloway, Scotland, UK) will round out the Pack's starting five. Kucera placed 55th at the Ryan Palmer Invite. McCulloch averaged 78. 36 strokes per round last season.
 
Sam Barthram (Jr., Surrey, Weybridge, UK), Austin Burgess (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colo.), Tyler Cox (Jr., Hobbs, N.M.), and Sanjay Nithiyalingam (So., Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, England, UK) will comprise the Pack's B team.
 
The Field:
Colorado Mesa University, Colorado School of Mines (A+B), Dodge City Community College, Fort Hays State University, Fort Lewis College, Lubbock Christian University, New Mexico Junior College (A+B), Regis University, South Dakota School of Mines & Technology will travel to Pueblo to test the Pack. 
 
The Course:
 
Walking Stick Golf Course spans 7,200 yards and par stands at 72. Walking Stick Golf Course holds a rating of 72.0 and it has a slope rating of 134 on blue grass.  Designed by Arthur Hills, ASGCA, Walking Stick Golf Course opened in 1991.
