Pack Tennis opens home season with Pueblo Duals Thursday-Sunday

PUEBLO, Colo. (Sept. 11, 2019) - Both the men's and women's Colorado State University-Pueblo tennis programs open the home season with the Pueblo Duals Sept. 12-15. The teams begin the long weekend Thursday hosting University of Texas-Permian Basin at 4 p.m. All matches are set to be played at Pueblo City Park are are free to the public. 

The women have five matches and the men have three. Both teams play Thursday and then the two squads square off against Dallas Baptist University Friday at 8:30 a.m. and Newman University Sunday at 8:30 a.m. The additional women's matches are set for Friday at 4:30 p.m. against Dixie State University and Saturday at 12 p.m. versus Fort Hays State University. 

The women return five players from last season, including upperclassmen Sarah Megilligan (Sr., Pueblo West, Colo.) and Kali Hamilton (Jr., Grapevine, Texas). Hamilton was a All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Second Team Doubles player last season. In 2018, Hamilton was second team singles and doubles, while Megilligan earned All-RMAC Honorable Mention Doubles. 

The men return three players, guided by the lone senior in Daniel Garcia (Riverside, Calif.). Garcia played the majority of last season at the No. 1 singles spot. Sophomores Edward Cooper (Wolverhampton, UK) and Richard Garcia (Surrey, UK) also return. Cooper played the No. 2 and No. 3 singles spot, while R. Garcia was at the No. 4 and No. 5 position.

As a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, Colorado State University – Pueblo competes in 22 varsity sports in NCAA Division II intercollegiate athletics.
