Mesa’s man-up sends Pack MLAX home from RMAC Tournament

Box Score SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (May 3, 2019) – No. 3 seed Colorado State University-Pueblo Men's Lacrosse could not overcome No. 2 seed Colorado Mesa University as the Pack fell 18-11 in the opening round of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
 
The loss eliminated CSU-Pueblo from the postseason. They finished the 2019 campaign 7-8. The ThunderWolves won a program-record seven games and earned their highest seed in program history.
 
Tommy Vassallo (Jr., Sarasota, Fla.) netted two goals. Vassallo also dished out two assists. With four points, Vassallo reached 50 points for the first time in his career, totaling 32 goals and 18 assists.
 
Anthony Ferrie (Sr., Littleton, Colo.) scored two goals and dished out an assist in his final collegiate game. Ferrie finished with 61 points thanks to 33 goals and 28 assists. He also caused a turnover, tying him for the program record with 47 caused turnovers. Ferrie found four ground balls.
 
Weston Bartgis (Sr., El Cajon, Calif.) and Skylar Weathers (Fr., Ogden, Utah) each scored two goals. Weathers had three ground balls, while Bartgis snagged two.
 
Tyler Reed (So., Sacramento, Calif.) picked up a goal and an assist. Reed had two ground balls.
 
Freshmen Caleb Cole (Houston, Texas) and Jacob Muir (Ogden, Utah) each fired in a goal. Muir picked up a team-high six ground balls.
 
Parker Evans (So., Bentonville, Ark.) caused a team-high four turnovers. Evans also secured six ground balls.
 
Colorado Mesa went 5-for-5 on man-up opportunities. The Pack only converted one of its three man-up chances.
 
After a Mavericks goal, the Pack potted a pair of goals from and Muir and Ferrie to make it 2-1. The Mavericks went on a four-goal run to take a 5-2 lead. Weathers scored to bring the Pack within two. Mesa added two more to make it 7-3 after one. Three of the Mavericks' goals in the first period came on a man advantage.
 
Goals form Cole and Vassallo were matched by a pair of man-up goals from the Mavericks that gave them a 10-5 lead. Weathers scored his second to make it 10-6, but Mesa scored twice in the final minute of the second to lead 12-6 at the half.
 
The two teams traded the first four goals of the second half. Goals from Reed and Vassallo made it 14-9. The Pack would win the third quarter 4-3 as a Ferrie man-up goal made it 15-10. Isaiah Parker (Fr., Windsor, Colo.) assisted on Ferrie's goal.
 
The Mavericks won the fourth quarter 3-1. Bartgis had the Pack's lone goal in the fourth. The Mavericks closed out the Pack 18-11 to eliminate them from the RMAC Tournament.
