ThunderWolves men collect six RMAC titles, women add one on final day of RMAC Championships

RAPID CITY, S.D. (April 28, 2019) –The No. 18 Colorado State University-Pueblo men's track and field team collected six championships on the final day of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships in Rapid City, S.D. The men finished fourth as a team, while the women grabbed one title and finished sixth overall.
 
The men totaled 103 points to finish fourth as a squad, just shy of their third-place finish last season (107 points). 
 
The Pack opened and closed the track with victories, as they won both the 4x100m and 4x400m relays. The 4x100m squad was made up of Jordan Whitley (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.), Tevin Donnell (Sr., Fountain, Colo.), RJ Ramirez (So., Henderson) and Shawn Horne (Sr., Camp Casey, South Korea).  The group clocked a winning time of 41.27. 
 
In the 4x400m race to close the championships, the ThunderWolves scorched the field and took first with a time of 3:14.18. The squad was comprised of Whitley, Devundrick Walker (Sr., Aurora, Colo.), Horne and Thomas Staines (Jr. Colorado Springs, Colo.).
 
Both Staines and Walker also raced to individual titles to add to the team total. Staines won the 400m dash with his time of 47.89. Walker was crowned champion when he crossed the finish line in 1:52.32 of the 800m run, which was an NCAA provisional time. 
 
Horne grabbed eight points when he finished second in the 400m with a time of 48.35. Freshman Patrick Scoggins (Rangely, Colo.) added four points when he was fifth in the 800m with a time of 1:55.31. 
 
Junior Marcelo Laguera (Chihuahua, Mexico) captured the 5000m run championship when he broke the meet record with a time of 14:28.15. The time was an NCAA Divison II provisional mark. 
 
Sophomore Nate Miller (Colorado Springs, Colo.) wasn't about to let the tracksters have all the fun, as he earned the RMAC Championship in the discus with his top throw of 47.65m (156' 4"). 
 
He was also fourth in the shot put to add five more points. He recorded a provisional throw of 16.21m (53' 2.25") to earn the top four finish. 
 
In the sprints, the ThunderWolves finished two-three in the 100m dash with Donnell clocking a time of 10.72 for second and Whitley following closely behind in third with a time of 10.76. Donnell also scored in the 200m when he was runner-up with a time of 21.60 in the 200m dash. 
 
The seniors led the way, as Horne totaled 28 points to lead the team, while Donnell scored 26 points. Whitley also gathered 26 points with a pair of titles. 
 
The women built on their 23 points from Saturday and totaled 71 points for the Championships to finish sixth, but just a half point from Black Hills State University in fifth. 
 
The Pack grabbed their second title of the weekend when the in the final event of the championships the Pack crushed the field in the 4x400m relay with a season-best time of 3:50.88. The group was comprised of Tatianna Clanton (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colo.), Yasmine Hernandez (So., Johnstown, Colo.), Hailey Streff (So., Madison, S.D.) and Lauren Fairchild (Jr., McKinney, Texas).
 
Clanton added eight more points to the mix when she finished second in the 200m dash with a time of 24.51. Junior Reagan Andrews (San Pedro, Calif.) was runner-up in the triple jump with her top leap of 12.07m (39' 7.25"). 
 
The 4x100m relay squad was third with a time of 47.48 to score six points. The foursome was comprised of Iyana Harper (Fr., Alamogordo, NM.), Emma Sommer (Fr., Cologne, Germany), Fairchild and Clanton. 
 
Also finding the podium was Hernandez in the 400m dash when she was third with a time of 56.88. 
 
Sommer grabbed fourth in the triple with a leap of 11.49m (37' 8.5'). 
 
Streff was fifth in the 800m run when she crossed the finish line in 2:17.33. 
 
Freshman Heather Graham (Hugo, Colo.) grabbed a point with her eighth-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 12.45m (40' 10.25'). 
 
Fairchild gathered 26 points to lead the Pack, as she won the long jump Saturday. Clanton had 25 points in her final conference championship.  
 
The ThunderWolves have a couple last chance meets for student-athletes to try and qualify for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships, which are set for May 23-25 in Kingsville, Texas.
