PUEBLO, Colo. (April 22, 2019) - Colorado State University-Pueblo women's tennis will celebrate its lone senior,
Nia Matthews (Houston, Texas), Tuesday for Senior Day at Pueblo City Park. The ThunderWolves will close the regular season with a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference contest against Metro State University of Denver beginning at 2 p.m.
The ThunderWolves are 1-19 overall with an 0-2 conference record. The Pack are coming off an 0-7 loss at Colorado Mesa University.
CSU-Pueblo and MSU Denver played a nonconference match in Denver April 4 where the home team prevailed, 7-0. Sophomore
Kali Hamilton (Grapevine, Texas) battled the closest at the No. 2 singles spot and lost 6-4, 6-2.
Matthews has four singles wins this season at the No. 1 spot. Junior
Sarah Megilligan (Pueblo West, Colo.) also has four wins with three at the No. 4 spot this spring. The Matthews and Hamilton pair have three wins in doubles play.
The Roadrunners are 11-9 overall with a 2-0 RMAC record. The team has a 3-5 road record. MSU Denver has won four straight, all at home, starting with that victory against the Pack. The run also includes a 7-0 win against Colorado Mesa University and a narrow 4-3 win at against Dixie State University. The team also picked up a 5-2 win against Colorado College. Tabitha Porter is tied for the team lead in singles victories with 17 and is 10-8 at No. 1 this season. Helena Steenberg has a 17-5 record with an 8-4 mark at the No. 3 spot. Alex Pessoa and Steenberg have 10 doubles wins and a 7-4 record at No. 1. Mackenzie Hotan and Porter have combined for 10 wins and owns a 7-3 record at No. 2.
Tuesday's bout is the end of the regular season and the final preparation for the RMAC Tournament, set for April 26-27 in Grand Junction, Colo.
