GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (April 22, 2019) – Colorado State University-Pueblo Men's Tennis suffered a 6-1 defeat Saturday in a road match against state rivals Colorado Mesa University. 

The Pack were confident to back up their previous home win over the Mavericks when they won 4-3 (April 6). But the ThunderWolves struggled to post a second win in a row against CMU.

The Pack were a game away from clinching the vital doubles point. It was three wins in a row for senior James Ryan (Rustington, Sussex, UK) and Dante Alcala (Pueblo, Colo.), breaking their opponents in the first service game. Great serving and big point play resulted in the pair being unbeaten in three straight games with a 6-4 win at No. 3. Richard Garcia (Fr., Surrey, UK) and Edward Cooper (Fr., Bolton, UK) were 5-2 up in doubles play at No. 1, but the pair couldn't close out the match, losing 7-6 (5).

The Mavericks headed into singles action with full confidence and momentum from winning the doubles point. The lone singles winner was Cooper at the No. 2 spot, as he won in three sets. He lost the first set 5-7, but battled back for a 6-3 second set win to force a third set tiebreaker. The two needed extra tennis to decided a winner, as Cooper secured the win with a 14-12 score.

Cade Boedeker (So., Fort Worth, Texas) won the first set 6-1,  and was up 3-1 before pulling his groin. Boedeker then went onto retire due to injury in that set down 3-5. The Pack couldn't find any further wins in the singles line up, which resulted in a 6-1 loss.

The Pack return at home April 23 against Metro State University of Denver for Senior Day. Match time is 2 p.m. at Pueblo City Park.
