Women's tennis has three matches this week; Hosts RMAC opener Friday at East HS

PUEBLO, Colo. (April 2, 2019) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo women's tennis team will play three matches this week, including the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opener. 
 
April 3 will feature a rescheduled nonconference road match with Metro State University of Denver at 2 p.m. The ThunderWolves then host two matches at East High School April 5-6. The Pack open RMAC play against Dixie State University Friday beginning at 12 p.m., then host Colorado Mesa University in a nonconference bout beginning at 9:30 a.m.
 
The ThunderWolves are 1-14 overall and 1-10 this spring. The Pack picked up their first win of the season March 23 in a 5-2 result against New Mexico Military Institute and then lost 1-6 to Seward County CC March 29, both at home. Junior Sarah Megilligan (Pueblo West, Colo.) leads the team with four singles victories this spring, playing at the No. 4 position. 
 
MSU Denver is 7-9 overall and hold a 5-7 record this spring. The Roadrunners are coming off a 2-1 trip to Kansas and Missouri where they defeated Newman (5-2) and Rockhurst (4-0), but fell to No. 19 Northwest Missouri State (5-2). Tabitha Porter leads the team with 14 singles wins, which includes seven at the No. 1 spot. The pairing of Alex Pessoa and Helena Steenberg have a 4-3 record at the No. 1 doubles position. 
 
Dixie State stands 9-2 overall and a 1-0 in RMAC play (a 5-2 win against Colorado Mesa). The Trailblazers have won three in a row with victories against Mills College (7-0), Holy Names (4-3) and UC Santa Cruz (8-1). Three players have eight singles wins, while two more have seven. Yolena Carlon leads the way with a 7-4 record at the No. 1 singles spot. The combination of Carlon and Isabel Heras is 7-4 at the No. 1 doubles position, while Kyra Harames and Megan Lynch are 8-3 at No. 2. 
 
Colorado Mesa is 4-12 overall with an 0-1 mark in RMAC play. The Mavericks last competed in four matches in California March 16-19. CMU went 1-3 on the trip, as it lost 1-6 to No. 12 Azusa Pacific, 3-4 to Holy Names and 0-6 to No. 20 Point Loma Nazarene and then won 4-2 against Biloa. Kristen Kirby has a 10-11 record to lead the team in singles victories. She is 8-7 at the No. 1 spot. Kirby and Emily Beckley are 7-9 at the No. 1 doubles position and have 11 wins overall.  
 
The ThunderWolves will close out the home schedule April 12-13 back at Pueblo City Park. The Pack battle Tarleton State University April 12 at 2 p.m. and MSU Denver in a RMAC match beginning at 3 p.m.
