PUEBLO, Colo. (March 6, 2019) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo Men's Tennis team swept its home opening match in style beating Concordia University (Neb.) 7-0. It was a fantastic day of weather and tennis from the ThunderWolves, as they took care of the traveling team in good fashion.

The home season's fixture kicked off at 2 p.m. when the doubles teams went out to play. A strong and dominant performance from the No. 1 pairing of Daniel Garcia (Jr., Riverside, Calif.) and Edward Cooper (Fr., Bolton, UK) stormed to a 6-0 victory. The Pack (2-8) didn't hang around, when the European duo of Ogulcan Deniz (Sr., Istanbul, Turkey) and James Ryan (Sr., Rustington, Sussex, UK) followed a 6-0 victory, as well, with the Pack clinching the doubles point. The No. 3 doubles pairing Cade Boedeker (So., Fort Worth, Texas) and Dante Alcala (Jr., Pueblo, Colo.) completed their match and won 6-1.

The Pack dominated doubles play and took the momentum into singles play strongly. Rafael Abreu (So., San Paulo, Brazil) secured a 6-0, 6-0 victory at the No. 6 position giving the ThunderWolves an early 2-0 lead. Deniz followed up shortly after at the No. 3 spot placing the Pack up 3-0 and needing one further single win to secure a home opener victory. Alcala then clinched the match at the No. 5 position, 6-1, 6-2. The Pueblo native is now on a two-match winning streak heading towards the Pack's road trip to Texas. Ryan, Cooper and Garcia secured victories in their singles matches resulting in a clean sweep day for the Pack.

The ThunderWolves set off tomorrow morning to commence their road trip down to Wichita Falls, Texas, where they will play in the MSU Texas Invite against Cameron University and Southern Arkansas University on Friday, followed by the last match of the weekend Saturday against host Midwestern State University Texas.
