Box Score 2 DENVER, Colo. (March 24, 2019) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo softball team dropped two Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference games Sunday at the hands of MSU Denver falling 8-2 in game one and the series finale 3-2 in 8 innings at the Regency Athletic Complex.
In game one, the Pack gave up two runs in the second inning and the score went unchanged for much of the contest. CSU-Pueblo got its first hit in the fourth inning and it marked the second base runner for the ThunderWolves in that time.
Michaela Burpee (Sr., Union City, Calif.) hit a double with one out in the fourth and was followed by a walk issued to
Marissa Piatt (So., San Luis Obispo, Calif.) but both were left stranded.
The Pack got on the board in the fifth inning, scoring one run on a RBI-single from
Gabby Moreno (Jr., Scottsdale, Ariz.).
The home half for the Roadrunners seen five runs cross the plate on five hits in the frame including two extra-base hits.
In their next at bat in the sixth, Piatt crushed her sixth homerun of the year, a solo shot to put the score to 7-2.
MSU Denver matched the run in the bottom of the sixth and in their final at bat, the Pack got one runner on base but effective pitching finished the game 8-2 in favor of the Roadrunners.
For the game, the ThunderWolves left six runners on base.
In the series finale, Pack pitcher
Hannah Anderson (Jr., Spokane, Wash.) pitched arguably her best game of the season, throwing 7 innings and allowed just five hits and three runs to MSUD.
Sabrina Felix (Jr., Corona, Calif.) got the scoring started for both teams right away hitting a RBI-double in the first inning.
The Roadrunners evened the score in the second inning and after a scoreless third inning from both sides, the Pack took a 2-1 lead after Felix laid down a sac bunt that turned to a defensive error and allowed a Pack runner to score in the top half of the fourth.
A solo homerun hit in the bottom of the fifth for MSU Denver tied the game at two apiece.
A quick sixth inning from both teams set up the seventh and final frame. CSU-Pueblo's
Karlee Salas (So., Pueblo, Colo.) recorded her first hit of the season, slugging a double with one out in the seventh.
In the bottom of the seventh, MSUD was retired in order from Anderson to send the game into extra innings.
Starting the extra frame, CSU-PUeblo had the first two runners reach base safely but a line drive out on the infield resulted in a double play to eliminate any scoring threat.
In the MSU Denver eighth inning, a single and hustle play by the Roadrunners leadoff hitter put the winning run in scoring position and a double was hit in the next at bat allowing the winning run to score and end the game 3-2 to the Roadrunners.
Anderson was tabbed with the loss and falls to 1-2 on the year.
CSU-Pueblo (5-17, 4-14 RMAC) returns home and opens a eight-game homestand starting next week (Mar. 30-31) and host RMAC-leading Colorado Christian University. The series begins Saturday at 12 p.m. at Rawlings Softball Complex.
