ThunderWolves pick up split on day one at MSU Denver

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DENVER, Colo. (March 23, 2019) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo softball team picked up a split on day one Saturday at MSU Denver. The Pack fell in game one 5-0 and came from behind in game two to win 7-3. 

Hailey Hicks (Jr., Meridian, Idaho) was one of three ThunderWolves to record three hits in the twin bill. Gabby Moreno (Jr., Scottsdale, Ariz.) and Sabrina Felix (Jr., Corona, Calif.) both notched three hits and a walk on the day.

Hannah Anderson (Jr., Spokane, Wash.) picked up the win for the Pack in game two. She tossed 5.1 innings and scattered nine hits and surrendered three runs. She fanned one.

In the series opener, CSU-Pueblo put runners on base early and left three stranded after two innings.

MSU Denver got on the board in the third inning, scoring one run on a single down the right field line.

The Roadrunners would score in each of the final three innings including putting up two-runs in the fourth.

CSU-Pueblo was outhit 7-4 and left five runners on base.

Pack pitcher Taylor Strupp (Fr., San Tan Valley, Ariz.) lasted 3.2 innings and gave up three runs on three hits. She falls to 2-8 on the year.

In the nightcap, four ThunderWolf hitters recorded at least two hits. Hicks' three hits led the team.

The Roadrunners jumped to a 3-0 lead after two innings on six hits.

The Pack responded in the top of the third, getting a solo shot from Hicks to left field and a RBI-double from Jordan Sheard (Sr., Broomfield, Colo.) to cut the lead to 3-2.

The score went unchanged in the fourth and fifth innings before the ThunderWolves scored three runs on three hits in the sixth inning. The Pack took advantage of a walk and a fielding error to score their runs.

Felix connected on a RBI-single and a laser shot hit up the middle by Hicks provided the scoring for the Pack.

The scoring continued in the seventh for the ThunderWolves as they managed two runs on four hits. Michaela Burpee (Sr., Union City, Calif.) and Felix each slugged RBI-hits in the frame.

In the circle Anderson gave up three runs on nine hits in 5.1 innings pitched to earn the win and improve to 1-1 on the season. Strupp came on in relief with one out in the sixth and lasted 1.2 innings and allowed no hits in the effort.

CSU-Pueblo (5-15, 4-12 RMAC) and MSU Denver will close out the series with another doubleheader Sunday starting at 11 a.m. at Regency Athletic Complex.
