PUEBLO, Colo. (March 16, 2019) – The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's and women's track and field programs hosted the CSU-Pueblo Early Bird to open the 2019 Outdoor Season, Friday and Saturday. The ThunderWolves combined for eight event wins and recorded a pair of NCAA provisional times.
Senior
Tatianna Clanton (Colorado Springs, Colo.) won the 400m dash when she crossed the finish line in 57.99, which was nearly three seconds faster than second.
A week removed from her National Championship at the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships, junior
Lauren Fairchild (McKinney, Texas) won the long jump with a mark of 5.72m (18' 9 ¼"), which was just off the NCAA provisional mark of 5.80m. Clanton was second with a leap of 5.55m (18' 2 ½").
In the triple jump, national indoor qualifier junior
Reagan Andrews (San Pedro, Calif.) was victorious with her top jump traveling 11.77m (38' 7 ½"). Freshman
Emma Sommer () was third in the event with her top jump reaching 11.01m (36' 1 ½").
The women's 4x400m relay team captured first place with a time of 3:52.27. The squad was made up of Clanton,
Hailey Streff (So., Madison, S.D.),
Yasmine Hernandez (So., Johnstown, Colo.) and Fairchild.
Sophomore
Nicole Bouma (Kalispell, Mont.) posted a time of 4:47.22 to place second in the 1500m run.
Hernandez recorded a time of 2:13.56 to place third in the 800m. Streff was fourth, as she crossed the finish line in 2:16.27.
Freshman
Claire Pauley (Arvada, Colo.) ran a 39:22.63 time in the 10K race to place third.
Fairchild was fourth in the 100m dash with a time of 12.62.
Sophomore
Liz Lockhart (Los Alamos, N.M.) recorded a top throw of 45.7m (149' 11") in the hammer throw Friday afternoon to finish fourth.
In his first race since winning the NCAA Division II Cross Country National Championship, junior
Marcelo Laguera (Chihuahua, Mexico) raced to a win in the 5000m run. His time of 14:31.85 is an NCAA provisional mark. Junior
Dylan Day was fifth in the race when he crossed the finish line in 15:22.59.
Senior
Shawn Horne (Camp Casey, South Korea) raced to first place in the 400m dash when he crossed the finish line in 49.03. Sophomore
Jordan Whitley (Colorado Springs, Colo.) was sixth with a time of 50.61.
The men's 4x400m team was victorious when they clocked a time of 3:20.30. The squad was made up of
Tevin Donnell (Sr., Fountain, Colo.), Horne,
Evan Demerson (Fr., The Woodlands, Texas) and Whitley.
Demerson won the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:01.46, while senior
Jacob Smith (Strasburg, Colo.) was second with a time of 1:01.82.
The Pack went 2-3 in the 100m dash with sophomore
RJ Ramirez (Henderson, Colo.) running to second in a time of 11.08, while Donnell was third in 11.10. The two went 3-4 in the 200m dash and flipped spots, as Donnell was third with a time of 21.83. Ramirez was fourth when he crossed the finish line in 21.92.
Sophomore
Nate Miller (Colorado Springs, Colo.) finished third in the hammer throw Friday when his top toss traveled 48.14m (157' 11").
Freshman
Justin Jenks (Helena, Mont.) was third in the shot put when he recorded a throw of 15.5m (50' 10 ¼").
Miller finished fifth in the discus with his top toss reaching 44.73m (146' 9").
Freshman
James Sanchez was fourth in the javelin throw Friday with a mark of 44.11m (144' 9"), while Smith was fifth with a throw of 43.27m (141' 11").
Following spring break the ThunderWolves remain home for the Spank Blasing Invite March 29-30.
