Box Score 3 WICHITA FALLS, Texas (March 12, 2019) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo tennis programs competed at the Midwestern State University Texas Invite Friday and Saturday in Texas. Both teams suffered three losses, while battling some nationally-ranked foes.
For the women, the ThunderWolves (0-13) lost 7-0 to Cameron University, 6-1 to Angelo State University and 7-0 to the host and No. 14 Mustangs. Junior
Sarah Megilligan (Pueblo West, Colo.) got the one victory against ASU, as she posted a 6-1, 6-2 result at No. 4 singles. Against MSU, senior
Nia Matthews (Houston, Texas) battled at No. 1 singles. She won set one in a tiebreak 7-6 (8-6), lost set two 5-7 and then fell in the third set tiebreak 4-10.
On the men's side, the Pack (2-11) lost all three matches by a 7-0 score.
The team battled with No. 24 Cameron and scored four points in two of the doubles bouts, but lost the team point. In singles competition, freshman
Edward Cooper (Bolton, UK) forced a third set, but would fall in the end by the scores of 2-6, 6-3, 5-7.
Against Southern Arkansas University, the No. 2 doubles pair of sophomore
Cade Boedeker (Fort Worth, Texas) and freshman
Richard Garcia (Surrey, UK) forced extra tennis, but lost 5-7. At No. 3 singles, senior
Ogulcan Deniz (Istanbul, Turkey) won the first set 6-4, but fell 2-6, 2-6 to suffer the loss.
Dante Alcala (Pueblo, Colo.) won his first set at No. 5 singles 6-3, but lost 2-6 in the second and fell in the third set tiebreak 5-10.
In the finale against No. 17 MSU Texas, the top doubles team of Deniz and junior
Daniel Garcia (Riverside, Calif.) lost 4-6. Senior
James Ryan (Rustington, Sussex, UK) was the lone member of the ThunderWolves to win a set in singles play, as he won 7-6 in set one in the No. 3 position. He fell 3-6 in set two, then went to extra tennis in the third set tiebreak, falling 13-11.
Next up, both programs head to Denver March 15 to battle with Metro State University of Denver. Play is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
