Box Score 2 COLORADO SPRINGS (February 25, 2019) – Colorado State University-Pueblo softball lost a pair of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference games at the hands of University of Colorado-Colorado Springs Monday at Mountain Lion Stadium.
The Pack lost game one 6-0 and fell 8-3 in the series finale.
On the day,
Michaela Burpee (Sr., Union City, Calif.) led with three hits and a pair of runs.
In the first game, CSU-Pueblo collected hits in all but one inning. The Pack started the game with singles in each of the first three innings but was unable to plate any runs.
On the other side, the Mountain Lions smacked a pair of hits over that same period as the teams battled to a scoreless tie through three complete innings.
In the top half of the fourth, the Pack had two players reach base with two outs but UCCS escaped the scoring threat with a flyout.
The Mountain Lions scored the first run of the game in their next at bat in the fourth, taking advantage of a walk with one out in the frame.
The home team tacked on another single run in the fifth before erupting to plate four runs on three hits in the bottom of the sixth to take a 6-0 lead heading to the seventh.
In their last at bat, the ThunderWolves earned a single on the infield and was retired with zero runs crossing.
Pack pitcher
Taylor Strupp (Fr., San Tan Valley, Ariz.) went 5.2 innings, giving up six runs, five earned and allowed five walks and falls to 0-5 on the season.
In the series finale, the Mountain Lions put up scored multiple runs in three different innings including a three-spot in the third.
UCCS jumped out to a 2-0 lead after hitting a two-run homerun in the first at bat.
Following a scoreless second inning, the Mountain Lions totaled five runs over the next two frames to take a 7-0 lead through five innings.
CSU-Pueblo got on the board in their half of the sixth, earning a leadoff walk that resulted in two runs on two defensive errors.
Trailing 7-2 going to the bottom of the sixth, the Mountain Lions added a single run in their at bat.
The ThunderWolves added a run in the seventh to close out the game at 8-3 in favor of UCCS.
Pack pitcher
Samantha Riesen (Jr., Independence, Calif.) was tabbed with the loss and drops to 1-2 on the year as she went 2.0 innings and allowed five runs on five hits. She struck out three and walked three batters.
CSU-Pueblo (1-7, 0-4 RMAC) will open its home schedule March 2-3 in a pod series against Regis and Black Hills State. Saturday, the ThunderWolves will play Regis at 11 a.m. and Black Hills State at 3 p.m. Sunday, the Pack will open against Black Hills State at 10 a.m. and finish the weekend versus Regis, that game is scheduled for 3 p.m. All games will be played at Rawlings Softball Complex.
