MIDLAND, Texas (Feb. 25, 2019) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo women's tennis team went 0-4 at the University of Texas-Permian Basin Invite Friday and Saturday in the team's first NCAA Division II competition of the spring season.
The Pack (0-9) weren't able to secure a team point in the first three matches of the Invite, losing to University of St. Mary's (6-0), Western New Mexico University (7-0) and St. Edwards University (7-0). In a 6-1 loss to host UTPB, the Pack picked up a singles win when junior
Sarah Megilligan (Pueblo West, Colo.) lost set one 5-7, but battled back for a 6-2 set two win and then an 11-9 victory in the tiebreak.
This year the three doubles matches will determine one team point, so the ThunderWolves lost every doubles team point, but the pair of senior
Nia Matthews (Houston, Texas) and
Kali Hamilton (Grapevine, Texas) got one win on the weekend. The No. 1 doubles tandem picked up a win against WNMU, using a tiebreaker to win 7-6 (3).
Next up for the ThunderWolves is the start of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference season when they travel to Grand Junction, Colorado, Saturday, March 2 for a 9 a.m. match against Colorado Mesa University.
