Box Score 2 COLORADO SPRINGS (February 24, 2019) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo softball team lost two games against University of Colorado-Colorado Springs to start Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play Sunday at Mountain Lion Field.
The series was pushed back by one day due to inclement weather in the region.
On the day, the Pack was guided by
Marissa Piatt (So., San Luis Obispo, Calif.) who went 4-for-6 at the plate with a homerun and two RBIs.
Sabrina Felix (Jr., Corona, Calif.) gathered four hits and three RBIs and
Morgan Hatfield (Sr., Upland, Calif.) went 4-for-6 at the dish.
Junior
Rachel White-Duran (Bernalillo, NM) collected three hits and scored three runs on the day.
In the opener, two four-run innings by UCCS doomed the Pack.
CSU-Pueblo scored the first run of the game in the second inning thanks to an RBI-double off the bat of Felix.
UCCS took the lead in the bottom half of the frame, scoring four runs on a pair of hits.
The Pack scored another run in the third, off a double hit by
Michaela Burpee (Sr., Union City, Calif.).
Another run came across for the ThunderWolves in the fifth inning on the Piatt solo shot. She leads the teams in dingers hit this season.
The Mountain Lions put up their second four-spot in the sixth inning, ending the contest by a score of 11-3.
In the second game, more big run innings by UCCS lifted them to victory.
CSU-Pueblo jumped ahead with one run in the first off a Piatt single up the middle, scoring White-Duran who reached on an infield single in her at bat.Â
UCCS evened the score in their first inning and took a four-run lead after two complete.
In the third, CSU-Pueblo scored two runs on four consecutive hits from the heart of the lineup.
The home team plated four more runs in their next at bat, including a three-run homerun.
Both teams went scoreless in the fourth. The next at bat for the ThunderWolves resulted in two more runs crossing the plate as they took advantage of three defensive errors.
The scoring barrage continued for UCCS in the next at bat as they scored two runs and loaded the bases before hitting their second walk-off of the day, a grand slam to put the final score at 15-5.
Pack pitcher
Samantha Riesen (Jr., Independence, Calif.) was tabbed with the loss after giving up nine runs on seven hits in 2.1 innings in the circle.
The teams will complete the series Monday with two more games scheduled. Game one is set to start at 12 p.m. at Mountain Lion Field.
