ALAMOSA, Colo. (Feb. 22, 2019) – The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's distance medley relay team was crowned 2019 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Champions Friday on day one of the league championships in Alamosa, Colorado. The women's team ranks sixth after a day of competition.
The championships conclude Saturday, starting with the heptathlon events and high jump at 8:30 a.m. The mile kicks off the track events beginning at 12 p.m.
The men, ranked No. 17 nationally, have 10 points, all from the DMR. The group was made up of freshman
Patrick Scoggins (Rangley, Colo.), senior
Shawn Horn (Camp Casey, South Korea), senior
Devundrick Walker (Aurora, Colo.) and junior
Thomas Staines (Colorado Springs, Colo.). The squad ran to a time of 10:13.92.
Sophomore
RJ Ramirez (Henderson, Colo.) had the fastest 60m dash qualifying time at 6.90 to tie his personal best. He also advanced to Saturday's final in the 200m dash with a prelim time of 22.32 to tie for the sixth fastest time and establish a PR.
Senior
Jacob Smith (Strasburg, Colo.) has 2,350 points through four events of the heptathlon. He sits 12th and will compete in the final three events Saturday morning.
The women scored 17 points to sit sixth and were just two points out of fourth.
Junior
Lauren Fairchild (McKinney, Texas) scored five points when she finished fourth in the long jump with a top leap of 5.78m. Senior
Tatianna Clanton (Colorado Springs, Colo.) jumped 5.66m to finish sixth and score three points. Both are NCAA provisional marks.
Junior
Jenna McKinley (Mosca, Colo.) also scored five points when she was fourth in the weight throw with her final toss traveling 16.01m.
The women's distance medley relay team ran to a time of 12:45.05 to finish fifth and score four points. The squad was comprised of
Hailey Streff (Madison, S.D.),
Kayana Casias (Pueblo, Colo.),
Yasmine Hernandez (Johnstown, Colo.) and
Nicole Bouma (Kalispell, Mont.).
Clanton also qualified herself for the 60m dash and 200m dash finals, set for Saturday. She ran the 60 in 7.58 to sit fourth among the qualifying times. The senior crossed the finish line in 24.85 in the 200 to record the third fastest time in the preliminaries.
