GOLDEN, Colo. (Feb. 15, 2019) – Coming off conference athlete of the week honors, Lauren Fairchild (Jr., McKinney, Texas) of the Colorado State University-Pueblo women's track and field team established not only a personal best, but a new school record while leaping to an NCAA provisional mark in the long jump that ranks sixth in Division II this season.
Fairchild popped a mark of 5.93m (19' 5.5") in the long jump at the Colorado School of Mines versus CSU-Pueblo and Metro State University of Denver Triangular Friday. The mark edges the old school record of 5.92m, set by recently inducted CSU-Pueblo Athletics Hall of Famer Danita Wyatt. Last weekend she jumped 5.82m for a new indoor personal best, which earned her Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Week recognition, but yesterday was a new PR for indoors or outdoors for the junior.
On the men's side, Nathan Miller (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) won the shot put when he also improved on his personal best established a week earlier. The sophomore posted a throw of 16.40m (53' 9.75") to record an NCAA provisional mark in the event and establish a new school record that stood since 1974. Last week he threw to 16.05m. He also produced a personal best in the weight throw to finish third. His top toss traveled 14.63m (48' 0").
Fellow thrower freshman Justin Jenks (Helena, Mont.) was fourth in the weight with a personal best toss of 12.73m (41' 9.25").
Back to the women, the ThunderWolves totaled 66 points in the team competition to finish second to host Mines, who totaled 66 points.
Freshman Iyanna Harper (Alamogordo, N.M.) posted a personal best in the 200m dash with a winning time of 27.23. Sophomore Kayana Casias (Pueblo, Colo.) was second in the 400m dash with her time if 1:03.67.
Also in the field events, junior Lydia Pavlenko (Portland, Ore.) won the triple jump with her top mark of 11.55m (37' 10.75"), while freshman Emma Sommer recorded a personal best leap of 11.44m (37' 6.5") to finish second.
Junior Jenna McKinley (Mosca, Colo.) was second in both the weight throw and shot put. She posted a personal best toss of 16.27m (53' 4.5") in the weight and was runner-up in the shot with her top mark of 13.43m (44' 0.75").
The event was the final tune-up before the ThunderWolves travel to Alamosa, Colorado for the 2019 RMAC Indoor Championships, set for Feb. 22-23.
