PUEBLO, Colo. (Feb. 15, 2019) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's tennis team will make a three hour trip up to the University Northern Colorado Saturday. The ThunderWolves will start play at 11:30 a.m. against Division I Northern Colorado. At 3:30 p.m. the Pack will battle against another Division I opponent, Southern Utah University.

Last Time Out

The CSU-Pueblo men's tennis team competed at the Air Force Academy last Friday in a neutral contest against Abilene Christen Firestorm. The team lost 7-0 to a strong Division 1 tennis program who has recorded a 10-3 record this year.

Opponent Preview: University of Northern Colorado

The ThunderWolves will face the University of Northern Colorado Bears in their first away match of 2019. The Bears are coming off of a solid season, finishing it 11-13 overall in
2017-18 season.

So far this year the Bears have recorded a 3-4 record. The team's biggest win was on their road trip down in Texas where they upset SMU 4-3. Junior Kyle Pease continues to impress after his win in the No. 1 spot against Northern Kentucky University. Overall, Pease is 3-4 overall, including 1-0 in the Big Sky.

Opponent Preview: Southern Utah University

The Thunderbirds have begun their season in very good form. The program has recorded a 5-1 record so far. They have just recently returned from an away trip to California, where they beat Sacramento State 4-3 in their first Big Sky match.

Senior Salvador Mijares continues to shine at the No. 1 singles spot for the Thunderbirds posting an undefeated record. His stand out win was a three set victory over UC Riverside Kyle McCann.

Words from Edward Cooper (Fr., Bolton, UK)

"So far the season hasn't gone as good as it could've, but we've all had our chances in different matches and played some good tennis. Considering we're playing high Division I schools, it's looking promising for the future and our official season. For the upcoming matches this weekend we are playing two more Division I schools, which again will be a challenge, but I think the whole team is excited to play UNC as we know the team very well and also lost a player last semester to them, so again I'm looking forward to another tough match and can hopefully get the result. Then we're playing Southern Utah, which I don't really know too much about, but again looking forward to try and get a result for the team."
